All applications for the undergraduate programmes should be made to the Marketing Department. Meanwhile application for postgraduate studies should be made to the Institute of Research and Postgraduate Studies (IRPS) or International School of Entrepreneurialship (ISE) and is open throughout the year. There are two student intakes per year, in January and July.

After you receive your UniKL acceptance package you will need to start preparing for travel to Malaysia. Checklist: Obtain your passport and visa
Book your flight and collect your plane ticket.
Check customs regulations.

Preparing Your Finances
Make sure you have some money or traveller’s cheque (approximately RM2000) for the initial expenses upon your arrival. When you arrive you may exchange the cash or travelers cheques for Malaysian currency at the airport. It is not advisable to carry large amount of cash. A student usually needs approximately RM 12,000- RM 22,000 (excluding tuition fees) each year for living expenses.

A student is allowed to work while studying for not more than 20 hours per week in certain industry during a term break of minimum 7 days.

Health Issues
It would be advisable that you have some vaccinations before you leave your country. Check with your doctor. If you have any medical problems they should be addressed in your country before you come to Malaysia. All students are covered under the university basic insurance policy. However if you feel you need extra coverage while studying in Malaysia, UIO will be able to assist you. A brochure outlining the benefits and coverage of the basic UniKL student’s health insurance will be available once you register with the university.

Suitable Attire
Malaysia has a relatively warm climate throughout the year between 28-30 degrees Celsius. However it frequently rains throughout the year so it would be useful to have an umbrella. Most students dress informally however there is a dress code on campus. Information on campus dress code can be found in the student booklet available once you have registered at the university. Clothes are relatively cheap in Malaysia and you can get most of the things you need here.

Checklist for your bags:

Passport with student visa, programme acceptance letter, driving license (if any).

Emergency contact eg. relatives, friends, your government embassy in Malaysia, UniKL ISO.

Enough money for your first month, approximately RM 1000 in cash and RM 2,500-RM 3,000 in bank draft or traveler’s cheque for initial establishment cost.

Your medical record (with blood type listed) and medicine (if any).

 

 

Procedure 1


The International students need to provide the information to UniKL International Office (UIO) through email at least 10 days before departure . The information are as follows :
i. Date & time of Departure
ii. Date & time of Arrival (Malaysia Time)
iii. Flight name and number
iv. Airport – KLIA or LCCT

Students are advised to bring along the original passport with at least 1 year validity and the Original Visa Approval Letter or Valid Entry Visa and the Offer Letter. Student will be required to complete the Malaysia Disembarkation Card which will be distributed by the airline crew or at the airport.

Students also are advised to carry about RM1000 – RM1500 in cash for early expenses in Malaysia.
Please be reminded that UniKL will not be held responsible for any consequences if the above instructions are not complied with. Priority for airport pickup is for registered students. Accompanying persons need to arrange for their own transportation.

Procedure 2


A UniKL representative will await students arriving at KLIA or LCCT , at the Immigration Counter. The UniKL representative will hold a printed paper with the student’s name and flight details. The student will be guided to the Immigrations Counter for clearance. The student needs to be ready with the following documents:
• Passport.
• Original Copy of Visa Approval Letter or Valid Entry Visa.

The Immigration Officer will not release students without the presence of a UniKL representative to identify and acknowledge the student.

 

 

Procedure 1


The student must report to the UniKL International Office, located at the 3rd floor, and will be given the following form :
i. Declaration Form
ii. Insurance Form
Please bring all document requested for the registration and immigration process. Student must arrange the payment to the UniKL International Office before register at the Campus or Institute (if any).
Students need to submit the passport and VISA Processing Fee to the UniKL International Office (UIO) according to the schedule given them. The UIO will provide students a certified true copy of their passport for safekeeping pending the Student Pass endorsement with the Malaysian Immigrations Department. Students may refer to the notice board at the UniKL International Office located on the 3rd floor, UniKL , Kuala Lumpur for collection of their passports. Students’ names will be printed on the notice board when their passports are ready for collection.

Important note:
• Students MUST submit their passport for Student Pass extension / renewal two (2) months before their Student Pass expires. Failure to do so will incur a penalty of RM300.00 per case, payable to UniKL.
• Students are responsible to ensure that their Student Pass and Entry Visa are VALID before leaving the country.

Procedure 2


Students who do not meet UniKL’s English requirement, will have to sit for the English Placement Test (EPT) . The test will be held at the UniKLs’ Center for Foundation Studies. The EPT results will be released and posted on the notice board the following day at the UniKL International Office.

Procedure 3


If student pass the EPT, students need to register at the Campus or Institutes . If student failed, students need to undergo the English Preparatory Program (EPP). UniKL will only conduct EPP if the number of students at least 10 students, otherwise the students should enroll the similar program at other college or institution.

Procedure 4


Students need to register at the Campus or Institute by own transportation. At the respective campus or institute, students need to pay the admission fee and register. Kindly refer to the UniKL International Office for the details of payment.

Procedure 5


After the registration at the campus or institute, all students need to attend the induction program at respective campus or institutes and it is compulsory.

For off-campus or on-campus accommodation, you can get different accommodations to suit your budget and lifestyle, such as university dormitories, apartments or in a private student accommodation. Many of these places are also located within walking distance, thus students can conveniently get to the university campus in just a short span of time.

The Student Accommodation Office will provide the support the students need on issues concerning accommodation. A number of options are available.

University Dormitories
University dormitories campuses outside Kuala Lumpur the cost will be approximately 20 - 30%.
On campus accommodation is available on all branch campuses of UniKL. It is very cheap to stay on campus, however all university housing are on quad sharing basis. If you prefer to stay on campus please indicate in the UniKL Offer Response Form which will be sent to you with your offer letter.

Private Accommodation
Students can also opt to live off campus. The UniKL International Office (UIO) will assist students to find suitable private accommodation close to campus.

Living Cost
Living cost will vary according to the type of accommodation you choose, the number of people you live with and the area you live in. Private accommodation in Kuala Lumpur will cost more while in the branch.
