Universiti Kuala Lumpur contingent won third place of the education sector category in the Federal Territories Day Celebration Parade at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur on 28 January, 2012.
Among VVIPs witnessing the colourful and cheerful event was Prime Minister, Y.A.B. Dato’ Seri Mohd Najib Tun Haji Abdul Razak; his wife, Y.A.Bhg. Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor together with Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister, Y.B. Dato’ Raja Nong Chik Dato’ Raja Zainal Abidin.
UniKL contingent was represented by 50 students from UniKL MIAT led by Muhammad Zia Umar, a Bachelor of Aircraft Engineering student and supervised by Puan Roslina Alwi, from Student Affairs Department of UniKL MIAT.
The contingent received a prize of RM1,000 from YAB Dato’ Seri Mohd Najib Tun Haji Abdul Razak as a token of appreciation. Apart from school children and youth clubs, around 94 contingents took part in this year’s parade representing various public and private sectors.
Muhammad Zia said, “the contingent was proud with the achievement as this was the first time UniKL took part in the competition in conjunction with Federal Territories Day. Despite the short training period, the procession team had shown great esprit de corps, discipline and dedication”.

UniKL parade team leader, Muhammad Zia Umar received a mock cheque worth RM1,000 from Y.A.B. Dato’ Seri Mohd Najib Tun Haji Abdul Razak for winning the third prize.

UniKL team assembled in-front of Sultan Abdul Samad Building, Kuala Lumpur before the marching kick-off.
