Universiti Kuala Lumpur’s Students Affairs Department (SAD) with the help of the City Campus and all Branch Campuses’ Student Councils organised a Voluntary Programme for Johor Flood Victims on 1st of February 2007. A total of 270 volunteers consisting of students and staff journeyed to Kampung Parit Jelutong, Parit Raja for the launching ceremony of the programme. Y.B. Tuan Haji Aziz Bin Kaprawi, State Assembly Member for Parit Raja at Sekolah Agama Kampung Parit Jelutong, Parit Raja at around 11.00 a.m. Other honourary guests Y.Bhg. Dato’ Rahman Hamid (Director General, Broadcasting Division, Ministry of Information), Prof. Dr Abu Talib Othman (Vice President, Technopreneur and Student Affairs, Mr. Bahtiar Haji Kasbi (Senior Manager, Students Affairs Division, Penghulu Parit Raja and other head of villages were present too in order to lend a helping hand.
UniKL volunteers were divided into groups with specific tasks. Volunteers from UniKL BMI cleaned up Sekolah Kebangsaan Pintas Puding. UniKL MFI – Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Aman and a neighbouring Taska KEMAS. UniKL MIAT – Community Hall and Surau Taman Pelangi. Meanwhile both groups from UniKL MIMET and City Campus were assigned to clean up the Sekolah Agama, a few surau and in Kampung Parit Jelutong.
UniKL Student Councils also managed to distribute RM5,000 cash together with useful items collected during the one week donation drive held at all UniKL’s branch campuses.
