UniKL Pasir Gudang to fulfill Human Capital Needs of IDR

Universiti Kuala Lumpur will be having the construction of its ninth branch completed in Pasir Gudang, Johor Bahru by 2010. The campus located in Bandar Seri Alam, will play a pivotal role in fulfilling the human capital needs of Iskandar Development Region (IDR). Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony of UniKL Pasir Gudang and Mara Junior Science College Johor Bahru yesterday, March 6, 2008, Y.B. Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, the Minister of Entrepreneur and Co-operative Development said, “the presence of UniKL Pasir Gudang is indeed very timely as the rapid development in South Johor will place the region as the second hub with booming job opportunities after the Klang Valley”. He added, “The graduates of UniKL Pasir Gudang will be able to play a significant role by serving the core businesses of IDR as they are highly equipped with knowledge and hands-on skills in the areas of quality engineering, industrial logistics, industrial process instrumentation and control engineering, industrial plant maintenance as well as oil and gas engineering”.

Built at the cost of RM 196.5 million on a 24 hectare piece of land, UniKL Pasir Gudang will have the maximum capacity of 1,500 students. It will be offering 5 Degree and 5 Diploma Programmes for its first intake this coming July 2008 where it will be operating from its temporary campus in Masai. Currently, UniKL has a total of 11, 527 students in its eight campuses located throughout Peninsular Malaysia. “UniKL Pasir Gudang will be the only branch campus of UniKL in Johor and I have requested MARA to further expand the development of UniKL Pasir Gudang in line with its critical role that shall be in tandem with the rapid growth of IDR. The expansion is highly essential to allow UniKL Pasir Gudang to offer more programmes in IT, electrical and electronics, chemical technology, biotechnology and medical, which are the key niche areas of IDR”, said Dato’ Seri Khaled.

Dato’ Seri Khaled also witnessed a document exchange for an MOA between Universiti Kuala Lumpur, Aero-Bildung GmbH and SAS-Aero Consultant Sdn. Bhd. The agreement will enable UniKL Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL MIAT) that focuses in aviation engineering technology, to appoint both Aero-Bildung and SAS-Aero as its technology provider for UniKL MIAT to obtain European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Part 147 Approval and become an EASA approved Maintenance Training Organisation.
