In conjunction with Majlis Anugerah Siswa 2008, the UniKL Football Team was unanimously awarded the coverted Anugerah Pasukan Terbaik UniKL 2008 by Y. Bhg. Dato’ Mohamad Rais Haji Zainuddin, Chairman, Board of Directors, Universiti Kuala Lumpur. This first inaugural event was held at Universiti Kuala Lumpur British Malaysian Institute (UniKL BMI) on January 20, 2009.
 
             The football team became Division 1B Champion in Kejohanan Bolasepak Liga Universiti Malaysia (MASUM UniLeague 2008). They beat all the seven other teams namely Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM), Universiti Darul Naim Malaysia (UDM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) and Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK).
 
             In his speech, Dato’ Mohamad Rais advised the students to make a thorough preparation in every aspects of their life including physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. With current situation of the world, there will be greater challenges ahead and as future leaders, the students should be able to face competition and struggle to be the best. These traits are important to create and produce quality employee or employer. During the event, students from nearly every branch campuses received awards for their achievements and contribution in sports, organisations and entrepreneurship activities.
Other distinguished guest who attended the event were Y. Bhg. Datuk Paduka Izzudin Ishak who is a Universiti Kuala Lumpur Council Member, Y. Bhg. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Abdul Hakim Juri, President/ CEO, Prof. Dr. Abu Talib Othman, Deputy President, Technopreneur & Student Affairs and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Halim Ali, Dean UniKL BMI.
