UniKL MSI Wan Fazliawahida took home the Gold medal

Once again, UniKL striked for glory after winning 5 medals in the 5^th UMS Taekwondo Open Championship at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. UniKL Malaysia Spanish Institute (UniKL MSI) and UniKL British Malaysian Institute (UniKL BMI) sent its contingent to participate in the Championship which was held from March 20 to 22, 2009. Four UniKL MSI fighters participated in the competition while six fighters represented UniKL BMI.

Among other participants in the tournament were Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Universiti Islam Antarabangsa (UIA), Universiti Terbuka Malaysia (OUM), and Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) as the host.

UniKL team made a remarkable achievement when all fighters advanced to the quarter final round, even though they were trained for only two weeks before the event. The team managed to grabbed four Bronze and 1 Gold medal. Details of the recipient are as follow:

• Mohd Roslan Musa (UniKL BMI) Bronze
• Mohd Zikri Zaharim (UniKL MSI) Bronze
• Muhamad Firdaus Jalil (UniKL BMI) Bronze
• Wan Fazliawahida Bt. Wan Yusoff (UniKL MSI) Gold

The team would like to thank UniKL members for their support, especially Prof. Dr. Abu Talib Othman, Tn. Hj. Bahtiar Kasbi, En. Norhisham Supandi, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rusli Othman, Assoc Prof. Dr. Abdul Halim Ali, and all UniKL department and division which has supported the team directly or indirectly.

The team is looking forward to participate in the MASUM Taekwondo championship which will be held in May 2009.
