The 2009 Design Innovation Exploration (DIX) organised by Majlis Rekabentuk Malaysia (MRM) and Shell Malaysia was held on April 1 and 2, 2009. This year, UniKL was proud to co-host this prestige event that abridged creative minds and young pioneers together to showcase their remarkable technological invention. The two days event celebrated design and new invention which involved students from various primary and secondary schools, university students and professionals. There were exhibitions and various interactive activities conducted during the event.
MRM, together with Shell Malaysia believed that DIX 2009 will foster the knowledge of innovation development to produce creative designers and students who are able to contribute their ideas by presenting them in a functional system or product in efforts to raise efficiency in the fields of productivity and design in the country. It also provides a platform for designers and industries to cooperate in producing quality products, and promotes healthy competition through innovation, science and technology.
With this aim, the cooperation with UniKL Institute of Product Design and Manufacturing (IPROM) was welcomed by UniKL as a way to introduce and promote IPROM to participating schools and industries. The exploration also exposed IPROM students on the current needs and demands of the industry for their pursuit.
DIX 2009 also saw the launching of the 2009 Malaysia Design Competition by Y.B Tuan Haji Fadillah Yusof, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation. Also present during the launching were General Manager of Corporate Affairs, Shell Malaysia, Datuk Ir. Wahiruddin Abdul Wahid, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Hj. Zainuddin, Chairman of MRM, Chairman of Board of Directors UniKL, Y. Bhg. Dato' Rais Zainuddin and President/CEO UniKL, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Abdul Hakim Juri. The design theme for this year is “Green Design”.
The event was closed with a prize giving ceremony for the 2008 Malaysia Design Competition participants, awarding creative invention and designers for their ingenuity to produce safety tools and products.
Categories contended were:
1. School Students Category • 1st Prize: RM 3000 with Trophy & Certificate
2. University/College Students Category • 1st Prize: RM 6000 with Trophy & Certificate
3. Professional Category • 1st Prize: RM 10,000 with Trophy & Certificate
4. Special Shell Category for Information Technology and Oil & Gas • RM 5000 with Trophy & Certificate
