NRIC 2009: 4 Silver and 2 Bronze fUniKL Football team emerged Champion among the defeated pool teams after securing a 1 – 0 win against Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). The team, coached by Mr. Mohd Nizam Husen from MIIT and assisted by Mr. Mohd Zahrull Hamdan from UniKL MFI, started slow after loosing the first match to Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) by 0 – 2. UniKL team showed their true colours in the 2nd match by defeating Universiti Teknologi Melaka (UTEM) 3 - 0 which qualify them to compete in the semi final round.

The team played with high spirit in the semi final round and defeated Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) 3 – 0 securing a spot in the grand final against USM. The match was tensed during the first half with no score from both teams. The victorious moment came in the 91st minutes at the end of the second half when UniKL’s midfielder Shamsul Fadhli blasted the winning goal securing the Championship title to UniKL. This achievement placed UniKL among the top teams in MASUM lists.

The MASUM Cup 2009 was held from 23rd to 31st May, 2009 at Universiti Teknologi MARA, Sri Iskandar, Perak. This seven weeks tournament was officiated by Dr. Saharudin Hj. Ismail, General Secretary, Sports Division of Ministry of Higher Education. 19 teams from Public Universities participated in this event and UniKL is the only private University in the tournament.

This tournament is an opportunity for UniKL Football team to maximize their performance in the MASUM Unileague which will be continued in July 2009.
