In effort to lessen the burden of earthquake victims in Padang, Indonesia, UniKL Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP) in collaboration with Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) is delegating a Medical Relief Team Mission to Padang, Indonesia consisting of four medical staff of UniKL RCMP; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Karim Russ Hassan, Dr. Jefri Irwan Harris Gunawan, Noorul Hilal Jurij and Abdul Rahim Gani. An interview session with media correspondents was held in UniKL RCMP on November 4, 2009 to highlight this corporate social responsibility programme by UniKL RCMP.

 

The Medical Relief Team led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Karim Russ Hassan, depart to Padang on November 7, 2009 till November 14, 2009. The team provided a Mobile Clinic in Padang to help the victims at the disaster area by offering medical services and post-trauma counseling. Apart from the mission, the Medical Relief Team also aimed to help the family members of Puan Suryati, a Pharmacy Lecturer of UniKL RCMP who were affected by the earthquake in Ulak Karang, Padang.

 

On top of this mission, a donation drive which was launched in October 2009 at UniKL City Campus and UniKL Malaysian Institute of Marine Engineering Technology (UniKL MIMET) has contributed an amount of RM 3522 to be channelled to the victims of the earthquake. Also present during the interview session was Mr. Izdihar Baharin, Chief Operating Officer, UniKL RCMP.
