Universiti Kuala Lumpur Ventured with Maritime and Aerospace Giants at LIMA 2009

Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) is sailing further to spread its wings in an effort to expand its cooperation with Maritime and Aerospace industries in Malaysia. In conjunction with Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA 2009) in Kedah, held from December 1 till 5, 2009, two Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) and seven Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) were sealed between UniKL and its strategic partners  in  maritime and aerospace industries throughout the event.

Among the highlight were the Memorandum of Agreement signing ceremony between UniKL and Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) which signified a cooperation to establish Advance Composite Training Centre (ACTC) for Aerospace Manufacturing Industry at UniKL Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL MIAT) to fulfil the training needs for skilled workers for the Composites Industries. The signing which took place at Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC) on December 2, 2009, was witnessed by Y.A.B. Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Haji Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia.

A technical agreement was also inked between UniKL MIAT, AREMECA Sdn. Bhd. and PLEXTEK Ltd. to indicate the commencement of the first phase of a programme worth USD 14 million to develop a Malaysian light aircraft in line with the Third Malaysian Industrial Master Plan (IMP3). Besides AREMECA and PLEXTEK, UniKL MIAT also ascertained MoU with Spirit Aerosystems Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. aimed to set up a basis of cooperation in the field of aviation aerospace technology particularly in the areas of manufacturing and management, as well as provision of training programmes and R&D facilities

UniKL Malaysian Institute of Marine Engineering Technology (UniKL MIMET) also took the opportunity to form a nautical alliance in the area of marine engineering and shipbuilding in conjunction with this event. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Abdul Hakim Juri, President/CEO of UniKL secured the MoU with GIATMARA and MSET Shipbuilding Corporation Sdn. Bhd. (MSETsc) to enable exchange of expertise and explore business potentials in marine engineering and shipbuilding industry. The exchange of MoU was witnessed by Y.B. Dato’ Hj. Hasan Malek, Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development.

Also present at LIMA'09 during the MoU signing ceremony were former Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and Y.B. Dato' Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Minister of Defence, Malaysia.
