UniKL Malaysia France Institute (UniKL MFI) participated in the Perodua Eco Challenge held June 26, 2010 at the Melaka International Motorsports Circuit Ayer Keroh, Melaka. The purpose of the Perodua Eco-Challenge is to promote engineering capabilities among students through modification of a vehicle which leads to lower fuel consumption. A total of 27 institutions, both from the public and private institutions of higher learning, were invited to participate and 12 were shortlisted based on their proposals. The 12 team shortlisted were from:
1. Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysia France Institute (UniKL MFI) 2. Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) 3. Ungku Omar Polytechnic (PUO) 4. Politeknik Sultan Azlan Shah (PSAS) 5. Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) 6. Universiti Tenaga Nasional (Uniten) 7. Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) 8. Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), 9. Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) 10. Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), 11. Universiti Industri Selangor (Unisel) 12. Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM).
Eventhough UniKL MFI finished 5th for the Manual Transmission category and 11th position for the engineering, design and participation category in the actual challenge, it is a great achievement for the team, as UniKL-MFI managed to be shortlisted for the finals and brushed aside the IPTAs i.e. UM, UKM, UPM.
The winners of the Perodua Eco-Challenge were decided by the distance their “re-engineered” car would travel using 1 litre of RON95 petrol. Points were also given to teams based on their creativity in the modification of the cars, decorations as well as support from their fellow students. UniKL MFI team was consist of 16 students and 4 lecturers.
