MIIT, UniKL City Campus Victorious as Hacking Champions

Teams darkcOde and GreenHAT from MIIT, UniKL City Campus emerged as Champion and 1st Runners-Up of i-Hack Competition 2010. This is a great achievement to MIIT, UniKL City Campus to have both participating teams winning in the 12-hours hacking and defense challenge which was held at UiTM Shah Alam from August 7-8, 2010. Moreover, the competition is highly regarded among hacking and security community, and the only inter-varsity hacking competition held in Malaysia.

As Champions, team darkcOde represented by Muhammad Rahezar Rahmat (52261208157), Adam Ahmad Zuber (52261208002) and Muhammad Izuari Idris (52208109037) won six thousand ringgit (RM6,000). While, team GreenHAT represented by Mohd Faiz Amer (52261207059), Firdaus Fadhil (52208109074) and Mohd Faizal Yahaya (51263208333) won five thousand ringgit (RM5,000) as 1st Runners-Up.

In the previous i-Hack Competition 2008 and competing for the first time, MIIT had to settle with 4th and 5th placing. But only in second attempt, the teams comprising of BIT in Computer System Security (BCSS) and BET in Computer Systems and Networking (BNS) students have done remarkably well in capturing the two top spot while denying other universities such as UTP, UTM and even UiTM.

According to Mr Nur Zahdi Mohd Nor Aldin (Information System Lecturer, MIIT) who accompanied the teams, “i-Hack is a good platform to showcase hacking skills among varsity students. It also gathers computer security experts to exchange ideas and solutions thru seminars, workshop and exhibition held during the competition. Our next target is to win our own 1st GreenHAT Hacking Competition, Hack-in-the-Box (HITB) Malaysia and given a chance to compete in internationally renowned DEFCON Capture the Flag Challenge.”
