The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Signing Ceremony between Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) and Royal University of Agriculture (RUA) was successfully held on the December 6, 2010. This signing ceremony were attended by UniKL President/CEO, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Abdul Hakim Juri and three other delegates including Datuk Md Afendi Datuk Haji Hamdan, Member of UniKL Board of Directors, Prof. Dr. Roslan Ismail, Dean of MIIT UniKL and Mr Shanmuga Vivekananda, Section head, MIIT UniKL.

The Rector of RUA, Dr. Ngo Bunthan in his welcoming speech was delighted to have UniKL, a top class technical university, as partner in Malaysia. Since RUA new direction is moving towards advanced technology and industrialization in agriculture sector, international partnerships are being sought to become the enabler for technology transfer. He stressed that the MoU with UniKL will benefit both parties, especially the students and lecturers, by preparing them for global challenges that requires high technical competency, outstanding communication skills, positive attitude and drive for success.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Abdul Hakim Juri, in his speech highlighted the strength of UniKL and its interest to explore other sectors including agriculture and forestry. This internationalization initiative taken by UniKL, particularly the Malaysian Institute of Information Technology (UniKL MIIT) is expected to facilitate activities in the area of academic, R&D, commercialization and collaborative projects, which have high impact to national sustainability and societal wellbeing. For a start, a group of twelve (12) UniKL MIIT students will be send to Cambodia next Jan 2011 semester as part of international student exchange program. He also welcomed students from Cambodia and expects some funding from private sector in Malaysia as part of their CSR.
