The inaugural UniKL Final Year Project (FYP) Competition with the tagline “Made in UniKL” was successfully held on May 18 – 19, 2011. Organised by Institute of Research and Postgraduate Studies (IRPS) in collaboration with the Student Affairs Division, the competition has met its objectives as a platform for Final Year students to express and exhibit creativity and innovation in their Final Year Project for viewing by industries and the general public. This competition also aimed to highlight their research and new ideas in their products.

The competition received favourable participation from 8 UniKL branch campuses nationwide with a total of 79 final year students and 31 projects competed for the grand prize of RM1,000. The closing and prize giving ceremony was held at UniKL City Campus, graced by Y.B. Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh, Chairman of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA).

The project entitled ‘Granular Fertilizer Dispenser’ by FYP students from UniKL Institute of Product Design and Manufacturing (UniKL IPROM) was crowned as the champion of the competition. The full lists of winners are as follows:

The winners of FYP Competition

These projects were evaluated by 4 professional judges led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Zahit Ali, Senior Lecturer from UniKL Malaysian Institute of Chemical and Bioengineering Technology (UniKL MICET), En. Ridza Ramza Ramli from SME Bank, Ms. Khairul Mazwan Ibrahim Pati from Multimedia Development Corporation (MDE) and En. Ritakamal Sadiman from e2B Consulting.

The projects were assessed based on the originality of their inventions, its uniqueness, commercial values and most importantly its contribution to the environment and green technology. Winners of this competition will represent UniKL to the 2011 National Research and Innovation Competition (NRIC 2011) which will be held at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in June.

Also present at the closing ceremony were Y.B. Dato’ Dr. Adham Baba, Chairman of UniKL, Y. Bhg. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Abdul Hakim Juri, UniKL President/CEO and other distinguished guests from MARA and UniKL.
