Nursing and allied health sciences students of Universiti Kuala Lumpur Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP) will be able to gain invaluable experience by undergoing their internship at 5 government hospitals and 4 community polyclinics in Perak. This is made possible through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between Ministry of Health and UniKL RCMP on May 26, 2011 at the Pan Pacific Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
The signing was witnessed by Y.B. Datuk Rosnah Shirlin Haji Abdul Rashid Shirlin, Deputy Minister of Health, Malaysia. Signing on behalf of Ministry of Health were Y.Bhg. Datuk Kamarul Zaman Md. Isa, Chief Secretary of MOH and Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, its Deputy Director General (Medical) while UniKL RCMP were represented by Y.Bhg. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Abdul Hakim Juri, President / Chief Executive Officer of UniKL and Y.Bhg. Prof. Dr. Hashami Bohari, Head of Campus and Dean, Faculty of Medicine, UniKL RCMP.

In her speech, Y.B. Datuk Rosnah Shirlin said that the collaboration between MOH and all institutions of higher learning in Malaysia offering health related programmes is crucial and is in line with the Government Transformation Plan (GTP) particularly in human capital development. She stressed that “it is highly important for the academic institutions to produce globally competent and highly skilled graduates who also possess critical thinking with the ability to analyse the situation based on the evidence based treatment”.
In total, 50 public and private institutions of higher learning were involved in the signing ceremony to enable attachment of their students from the medical, dentistry, allied health sciences and nursing programmes in government hospitals and polyclinics throughout Malaysia. Also present at the ceremony were Prof. Dr. Mohd Syafiq Abdullah, Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, UniKL RCMP, Assoc. Prof. Haji Nordin Abdul Rasid, Dean, Faculty of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences of UniKL RCMP, Puan Fadziah Ismail, Head of Nursing Programme, Encik Clament A/L P. Pachinather, Head of Radiography Programme and Encik Wan Rosli Wan Yusoff, Head of Physiotherapy.
