UniKL is the Best Place to Study

Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) is one of the most multicultural and prominent engineering universities in Malaysia.  Even, the university attracts a diverse group of students from many countries, cultures and backgrounds. This is the series of interviews with new International Students in the program, giving us a look at their different experiences, challenges and triumphs so far moving from their home countries to Universiti Kuala Lumpur.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself

My name is Amith Nouanmoukdavong from Laos, I’m 19 years old and I’m an international student from Laos. It’s my first year here.

2. Why did you choose to study in abroad? Why Universiti Kuala Lumpur?

I wanted to study abroad because I think the exposure and experience you get living alone, outside your home country and away from your parents is beneficial. You learn how to stand on your own two feet, manage your finances… you actually get to see that life is tough and you have to find a way to survive that. I chose UniKL because of its uniqueness in terms of programs and also the atmosphere.

3. Why did you choose Aircraft Engineering Technology? Why UniKL-MIAT?

I have a genuine interest in aviation industry and UniKL-MIAT is known to be one of the most prolific aviation schools in Southeast Asia or perhaps in the world so I thought it would be a good place to get my degree.

4. Did you have any other options?

I got other acceptances from other universities abroad but I chose UniKL-MIAT in the end.

5. If not Aircraft Engineering Technology, what course would you be taking now?

I’d probably be doing something to do with mechanical engineering, because I’m really interested in that area.

6. What’s your favorite out of the required courses?

It would have to be the Engineering Mathematics course! I’m a person that enjoys math- it’s fun to do.

7. Do you have any memorable “UniKL Moments” so far?

So far I haven’t really had any “memorable moments” but I think that getting accepted into the program in second year will be one…hopefully!

8. Are there any challenges you have faced as an international student?

Not really…people usually say that people get depressed when they leave home …I haven’t experienced that as I can call my parents, Skype with my friends…it’s like you are far away, but not really, due to all the technology we have these days. I think it’s also about finding the right group of people to hang out with and settling in like you would in any other place.
