Universiti Kuala Lumpur is proud to be the Higher Learning Institution from Malaysia in the consortium of 10 European and 10 Asian Universities to receive the ERASMUS MUNDUS GRANT under the AREAS (Academic Relations between Europe and Asia) Project. With this grant, under Erasmus Mundus Action 2, the university is privileged to conduct the ERASMUS MUNDUS International Mobility Programme for its staff and students to 10 consortium European countries involved. The project duration will be from July 2011 until July 2015.
The kick-off meeting of the AREAS project was successfully held in Hanoi, Vietnam on 25th – 26th October 2011 followed by visits from the EU University partners to the Asian universities partners for the promotional and information session, in conjunction with the announcement of 1st Cohort Call for application which will be opened from 1st Nov 2011 until 31st Jan 2012.

As an initiative to the take-off of the project, Universiti Kuala Lumpur has organised a promotion tour and information session, which was held at UniKL Chancellery, City Campus on 28th October 2011. The preview of the AREAS project was presented by Ms. Bianca Buttiglione, AREAS’s project administrator from Department of International Affair and Prof. Gustavo Belforte from Department of Control and Computer Engineering, Politecnico di Torino, Italy as the project coordinator for AREAS project.
The preview session was attended by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohamad Azemi Mohd Noor, Deputy President UniKL (Academic and Technology), UniKL management members, and staff representatives from UniKL’s campuses. The preview, Q&A and video presentation session was moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr Jamel Othman, Director of UniKL International Office, cum the AREAS’s Local coordinator for UniKL.

The main objective of AREAS project is to promote higher education cooperation between EU and Asia: Mobility from the Asian countries involved (Vietnam, Mongolia, Laos, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and The Philippines) to the European Union. There will be 98 scholarships available in this project at all levels, for Undergraduate, Master and Doctorate students as well as academic and administrative staff for the purpose of studying, researching, teaching and training in order to develop their qualifications and their international experience.
This geographical window is open to mobility in the following fields of study: Agricultural Sciences (01), Architecture, urban and regional planning (02), Business studies and management sciences (04), Education, teacher training (05), Engineering, Technology (06), Geography, Geology (07), Law (10), Medical Sciences (12) Natural Sciences (13), Social Sciences (14) and Other Areas of Study (16).
