- Microgravity Research of UniKL MIAT was Chosen as Recipient of International Astronautics Conference 2010 Youth Grant Award
The Microgravity Research of the Department of Aerospace of UniKL MIAT was chosen by the International Astronautics Federation (IAF) to receive the International Astronautics Conference 2010 Youth Grant Award. This award allows UniKL MIAT to table and present its microgravity research at the International Astronautics Conference (IAC) in Prague on September 2010 where the overall expenses would be borne by IAF. The recipient of the award, Ahmad Helmi Abu Kassim, an aerospace student of UniKL MIAT who is also the director of UniKL MIAT Aerospace Club, would also be taking part in technical discussion pertaining to the aerospace field. - NRIC 2009: 2 Silver and 2 Bronze for UniKL BMI
UniKL BMI bagged 2 silver medals and 2 bronze medals in the National Research and Innovation Competition 2009 (NRIC) which was held at the University Sains Malaysia (USM) Penang, from May 15 to 18, 2009. The four-day competition and exhibition featured 160 projects by 19 higher learning institutions was organised by the university’s Student Representative Council in collaboration with the Higher Education Ministry. Motorola was the main sponsor. The exhibition benefited students from various level as they shared and contributed ideas to improve their projects. The award winners from UniKL teams are as follows:

Nurhana Mohammed Tamin, a final year student in Data Communication UniKL British Malaysian Institute (UniKL BMI) has made UniKL proud for being the only participant representing Malaysia in the 2009 World Competition on Microsoft Office (MMOC 2009) Toronto, Canada. Nurhana was selected to participate in the competition after scoring full marks during the National MMOC 2009 held on 8th to 10th July, 2009. This international competition has attracted participants worldwide including Japan, Argentina and Mexico. Nurhana competed with 40 other participants for the grand prize of RM 17,000 scholarship.
- UniKL Bagged Three Awards at KARNIAWAN 08
UniKL had sent a contingent with 21 students and 2 officers and it is the third participation of UniKL in KARNIAWAN. During the convention, UniKL won awards for ‘Anugerah Rancangan Perniagaan Terbaik - A wireless Health Monitoring System’ and ‘Anugerah Usahawan Siswazah Terbaik (Encik Fairuz Ali UniKL Alumni)’.

20th International Invention, Innovation & Technology Exhibition was a great success with more than 1000 participations. ITEX 09 is now Asia’s leading platform for universities, research institutions, individual inventors and corporate sectors to showcase inventions, new technologies and products. ITEX 09 which was held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) from 15th to 17th May 2009 was organised by Malaysian Invention, Innovation and Design Society (MINDS). 'KG-Force Hand Grip System' led by Shah Rizailli Mukhtar from UniKL BMI took a silver medal over 40 teams taking part under Biotechnology, Health & Fitness category. This competition is an opportunity for UniKL to maximise exposure of its products and students to world audience. This showcase also enhanced marketability to a new market and international recognition.

- Student Represented Malaysia in the 27th ISTS
Ahmad Helmi Abu Kassim, a Diploma Student of UniKL MIAT had represented Malaysia in the 27th International Symposium on Space and Science (ISTS) 2009 held at Tsukuba City, Japan on 5th to 11th July 2009. National Space Agency Malaysia (ANGKASA) and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) had selected Ahmad Helmi to present an experiment entitled 'Analysis of Sound Wave at Zero Gravity Condition' at the symposium. His presentation had gained rapturous reception and was offered by European Space Agency (ESA) to advance the experiment using ESA’s facilities.
- UniKL MSI Taekwondo Team Outshine the Rest in the Open National Tournament
UniKL MSI Taekwondo team participated in the National Invitational Taekwondo Tournament hosted by UiTM Permatang Pauh, Pulau Pinang from 28th Feb – 1st March 2008. There were 350 participants which was a blend of old and new members as they compete to win the tournament. This year for the first time, the tournament was amazed by a female participant from UniKL MSI who swapped the gold medal. The new female fighter had just registered in January 2009. The other fighters are Mohd Zikri Bin Zaharim, Mohd Amin, Mohd Dazrul Azri Zual Hasnan, Ahmad Izhan, and Wan Fazliawahida Bt Wan Yusoff. The team won 1 gold medal, 1 silver and 2 bronze. Mohd Zikri Bin Zaharim (Silver & Bronze), Mohd Amin (Bronze), and Wan Fazliawahida Bt Wan Yusoff (Gold).
- MIIT, UniKL City Campus Emerged Champion in ANIMAX ’09 Challenge
Malaysian Institute of Information Technology, UniKL City Campus (MIIT, UniKL City Campus) students, once again, did the University proud with their recent achievements in ANIMAX ’09 Challenge organised by Faculty of Industrial Information Technology (FIIT) of Universiti Industri Selangor (UNISEL).Based on the given theme “Selangor in Future”, both MIIT, UniKL City Campus teams bagged the first and second prizes in the Institute of Higher Learning category that witnessed the participation of ten institutes of higher learning from all over Malaysia.
- MIIT-UniKL Team Represents Malaysia in Capture the Flag 2009 Competition
On 7th and 8th of October 2009, MIIT UniKL has sent their students from the BIT (Hons) in Computer System Security and BET (Hons) in Networking Systems to the prestigious Capture the Flag – Weapons of Mass Destructions competition organised by the Hack in the Box (M) Sdn Bhd during the annual HitB Security Conference 2009 here in Kuala Lumpur at Crown Plaza Mutiara, Jalan Sultan Ismail. The team-based hacking competition is an International competition with entrees from USA, Vietnam, Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore and not forgetting UniKL’s team that would represent Malaysia.

UniKL Starz of Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Information Technology (UniKL MIIT) did the institution proud when they bagged two awards for the OPEN JIVE REGIONAL CHALLENGE 2009 (Malaysia Final) which was held at Bukit Jalil Golf & Country Resort (Perdana Ballroom) on 2nd July 2009. Apart from emerging as the 1st Runner-Up, the team’s demonstration on TORTIS (Tourism Transportation Information System) also won the Best Teamwork title. TORTIS is a web-based application that would enable commuters to plan for their travels via train services (LRT, Monorail and KTM Commuter) effectively by identifying the most cost-effective route from one specific destination to another. Three UniKL MIIT students, Mohd Azizul bin Dahlan (Team Leader), Mohd Najmi bin Mohd Abd Hadi and Sirajul Fikri bin Zainul Nahar worked extra hard to produce TORTIS. A total of 15 teams from major universities all around Malaysia took part in the OPEN JIVE REGIONAL CHALLENGE 2009 (Malaysia Final) and UniKL Starz was one of the two teams representing IPTS.
- The 4th CISCO NetRiders Challenge 2009: UniKL 1st Runner-Up for Diploma Category.
In conjunction with UniKL City Campus Open Day on March 27 to 28, 2009, the 4th CISCO NetRiders Challenge 2009 came to a closing at UniKL City Campus on March 28, 2009. Organised by CISCO Systems Malaysia Sdn. Bhd, UniKL was honoured to host this year’s NetRiders Challenge where various local universities compete each other to be the best. UniKL MIIT team emerged as first runner-up for NetRiders Challenge Diploma Category. The team took home Runner-up Trophies and Certificates. The recipients are Hirudeen Mohd (DCNET), Abu Jihad Rafsanjani, Mohamed Hanapiah (DCNET), and Mohd Shahid Zainal Abidin (DCNET).
- UniKL MICET Representing Malaysia in 2nd International Chem E Car Competition, Montreal, Canada.
UniKL Malaysian Institute of Chemical and Bioengineering Technology (UniKL MICET) has been given the privilege as the sole representative from Malaysia in the 2nd International Chem E Car Competition which will be held in conjunction with the 8th World Chemical Engineering Congress in Montreal, Canada from 23rd to 27th August 2009. After winning in the 4th National Chem E Car Competition organised by the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) which was held in 5th March 2009, UniKL MICET Chem-E Car team comprising of four students, Nur Hazwan Shariful Azman, Ahmad Fadzil Rosedi, Mohd Zulkifli Ramly and Idris Nasruddin has been selected to represent Malaysia in this international competition which also received participation from Iran, Mexico and U.S.A. Partly sponsored by IEM, these students will proceed to Montreal, Canada with two accompanying lecturers Mr. Zulhafiz Tajudin and Mr. Imran Zakaria.

- Two teams from UniKL MICET won SILVER for Mondialogo Engineering Award.
Paris/Stuttgart –Daimler and UNESCO presented the Mondialogo Engineering Awards to 30 international teams of young engineers on the evening of Monday, 9 November, at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart/Germany. The awards in gold, silver and bronze were presented for innovative project proposals addressing the reduction of poverty, the promotion of sustainable development as well as climate change mitigation. Two teams from UniKL MICET won SILVER!! UniKL Malaysian Institute of Chemical and Bioengineering Technology (UniKL MICET) is among the top 30 short listed finalists for the 2009 Mondialogo Engineering Award (MEA) with their project proposal entitled 'Development of a low-cost, low maintenance and mobile bio-solartech unit for water purification'. In collaboration with University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, United States of America and St. Joseph's College of Engineering, India, the project proposal had received rapturous reception and has been selected to be in the running for the prestigious Mondialogo Engineering Award in Stuttgart, Germany, which will be held in November 2009. UniKL MICET is the sole representative from Malaysia participating in this international competition competing against 29 countries worldwide including Japan, China, Germany, Canada and France. The Mondialogo Engineering Award consists of a total amount of € 300,000 – MEA Gold Awards of € 15,000, MEA Silver Awards of € 10,000 and MEA Bronze Awards of € 5,000.

- UniKL RCMP Certified 40 Young Thais as Assistant Nurses.
40 young Thais who had undergone Assistant Nurses training programme at Universiti Kuala Lumpur Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP) was conferred their course completion certificate by Y.B. Datuk Dr. Abdul Latiff Ahmad, Deputy Minister of Defence, on June 11, 2009 in a ceremony held at Nikko Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The programme, which was officiated by Y.A.Bhg. Datin Seri Jeanne Abdullah on August 30, 2008, is an effort spearheaded by TASK FORCE 2010 (Malaysia) and TASK FORCE 960 (Thailand) to help to bring peace to southern Thailand. 40 assistant nurses from the district of Pattani, Narathiwat and Yala completed the one year nursing programme in surgical, emergency treatment, obstetric, gynaecology and community health care.

The 2009 Design Innovation Exploration (DIX) organised by Majlis Rekabentuk Malaysia (MRM) and Shell Malaysia was held on April 1 and 2, 2009. This year, UniKL was proud to co-host this prestige event that abridged creative minds and young pioneers together to showcase their remarkable technological invention. The two days event celebrated design and new invention which involved students from various primary and secondary schools, university students and professionals. There were exhibitions and various interactive activities conducted during the event. MRM, together with Shell Malaysia believed that DIX 2009 will foster the knowledge of innovation development to produce creative designers and students who are able to contribute their ideas by presenting them in a functional system or product in efforts to raise efficiency in the fields of productivity and design in the country. It also provides a platform for designers and industries to cooperate in producing quality products, and promotes healthy competition through innovation, science and technology. With this aim, the cooperation with UniKL Institute of Product Design and Manufacturing (IPROM) was welcomed by UniKL as a way to introduce and promote IPROM to participating schools and industries. The exploration also exposed IPROM students on the current needs and demands of the industry for their pursuit.
