UniKL MIAT bagging home second place in UniKL first Pitching Competition
The first UniKL Pitching Competition was successfully held at UniKL MIAT, witnessing the home team winning second place and bringing home RM 2,000.00 for their idea on Service. MY application. 12 campuses of UniKL participated in the inaugural event, pitching their brilliant ideas based on the theme "UniKL We 4 Asia". The competition aimed at giving the opportunity and platform for students to project their views and ideas in-front of the higher management of UniKL, in hope to propel UniKL towards achieving its "We 4 Asia" vision.
The panel judges were En. Shahar Abdullah (UniKL Board member), Prof. Dato' Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su'ud (President/CEO of UniKL), Prof. Dato' Dr. Khairanum Subari (Vice President SDCL), Dato' Amir Azhar Ibrahim (Chief Marketing and Planning), Pn. Nik Eliza (Chief Finance Officer) and En. Abdul Aziz Ismail Effendi (Director of Project Management Office).
UniKL MIAT team was represented by three international students, led by Obaida Hani Farouq, Miguel Benedict and Udaaramba Gamarallage Thineth. "It was our first ever experience participating in such competition, and it was a sweet one having to win second place on our first attempt", commented by Obaida after the win. Service.My was presented as a mobile and web based application, which allows students to market their hands-on skills while still studying in UniKL. The application can become as an additional source of income for students. According to Miguel, students from UniKL MFI for example, who have specialization in the trait of air-conditioning, can put their skills on the job over weekend to service house air-conditioning units. The Public can simply request the service at the convenient of their finger tips from the Service.MY app, at a fraction of a price compared to other professional service provider. Thineth commented that the work will be monitored by UniKL Specialist, to ensure the quality of the services provided by the students are at par with other professional service providers in the market.
The well-founded competition between campuses had granted UniKL MITEC as this year's champion with their impressive idea entitled "UniKL ACT", while the "Kibaran Asia" an idea pitched by UniKL MFI team came in third place. Both teams received prize money worth RM3,000.00 and RM1,000.00 respectively. Indeed, the UniKL pitching competition was an excellent platform for students to not only gain new experience in adopting innovative techniques but also to showcasing their communication skills.
