Nurzhan Ulikpanov from Kazakhstan travel halfway across the world to further his education, but the UniKL Business School new student says it was all worth it. "I choose to study Business Administration program at UniKL Business School because it fitted perfectly with my career aspirations and it costs less to study in other part of the world," says Nurzhan. He said, the university also provides excellent learning atmosphere for students to success. "Life at UniKL Business School like an out of this world experience, excellent environment, above all a very supportive faculty and management. I would recommend Universiti Kuala Lumpur to anybody in a blink of an eye", he said. "At Universiti Kuala Lumpur, you get guidance but there is the opportunity to think for yourself. You can reflect on what you have learnt and have independent thoughts", (Nurzhan Ulikpanov, Kazakhstan) Nineteen-year- old Nurzhan also enjoying the university's open learning environment and teaching style, which is different from the approach taken in his home country. "Here we are free to question and interact with our classmates and lecturers. It took a little while to get used to that", he says. Nurzhan admits his shyness was a barrier when he first arrived at UniKL recently. "I knew no-one. I just decided to ‘get over it' and start talking to people", he says. That approach has worked and he started to glows with confidence. "I am a different person to the one that arrived here recently. But I believe, as time goes by, I'll be a better person", he said.

My name is Sarah Saud Fatmi from Pakistan, I'm 18 years old and I'm an international student from Pakistan. It's my first year here.

Your Reasons for Choosing the UniKL?
I love the lively atmosphere and diversity unique to Universiti Kuala Lumpur specifically the UniKL Business School. The students at this school come from many different backgrounds and possess individual viewpoints and opinions even though they are studying the same subjects. We can learn not only from our lecturers, but also from our classmates. In addition, the UniKl Business School provides a wide variety of study fields. The courses taught here like Economics & Industry, Commerce, Trade & Finance, Management, and Accounting are high quality and meet the international standards. This allows us to acquire knowledge in many related areas and with it a broader perspective and increased competitiveness.

What you like most about Universiti Kuala Lumpur and the UniKL Business School?
I have the highest opinion of the UniKl Business School support system and the way it respects each student's wishes and decisions to the fullest extent possible. Students are encouraged to make decisions for themselves and act from a strong sense of duty. Thanks to this support system. I think this kind of system would benefit us in improving our competitiveness.

Career aspirations after graduating
After graduating from university, I intend to enroll in the MBA program of UniKL Business to learn management skills and international strategies. In the future I want to join a transnational corporation and work as an international manager. "I knew UniKL is a great university as it aims to uphold the independence of learning and to promote the practical utilization of knowledge and good citizenship", (Sarah Saud Fatmi, 19 years old, Pakistan)

Tell us a bit about yourself
My name is Amith Nouanmoukdavong from Laos, I'm 19 years old and I'm an international student from Laos. It's my first year here.

Why did you choose to study in abroad? Why Universiti Kuala Lumpur?
I wanted to study abroad because I think the exposure and experience you get living alone, outside your home country and away from your parents is beneficial. You learn how to stand on your own two feet, manage your finances… you actually get to see that life is tough and you have to find a way to survive that. I chose UniKL because of its uniqueness in terms of programs and also the atmosphere.

Why did you choose Aircraft Engineering Technology? Why UniKL MIAT?
I have a genuine interest in aviation industry and UniKL MIAT is known to be one of the most prolific aviation schools in Southeast Asia or perhaps in the world so I thought it would be a good place to get my degree.

Did you have any other options?
I got other acceptances from other universities abroad but I chose UniKL MIAT in the end.

If not Aircraft Engineering Technology, what course would you be taking now?
I'd probably be doing something to do with mechanical engineering, because I'm really interested in that area.

What's your favorite out of the required courses?
It would have to be the Engineering Mathematics course! I'm a person that enjoys math- it's fun to do.

Do you have any memorable 'UniKL Moments' so far?
So far I haven't really had any "memorable moments" but I think that getting accepted into the program in second year will be one…hopefully!

Are there any challenges you have faced as an international student?
Not really…people usually say that people get depressed when they leave home …I haven't experienced that as I can call my parents, Skype with my friends…it's like you are far away, but not really, due to all the technology we have these days. I think it's also about finding the right group of people to hang out with and settling in like you would in any other place.
