This is a unique four-year engineering technology degree programme designed to produce industrial designers by integrating engineering concepts with arts and flair for visualization. This radical approach allows the product development value chain to start with engineering as opposed to the traditional method where product development always begins with conceptual design. Students will be exposed to the basic and advanced engineering tools such as CAD, CAO and CAE as well as the idea creation through artistic visualization. The final result will be an industrial designer who understands the market opportunity, interprets market requirements, and is well-versed in technology and development processes.
 

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs) 

  1. To produce graduates who are knowledgeable, competent, and innovative, able to contribute towards the human capital in Industrial Design engineering related industry 
  2. To produce graduates with effective leadership and team work skills and interpersonal communication skills to support their roles in the industry. 
  3. To produce graduates who are committed to the importance of lifelong learning and continuous improvement. 
  4. To produce graduates who practice professionalism with ethics and social responsibility. 
  5. To produce graduates who are capable of embarking on business and technopreneurial activities in designing as well as related industries. 

 

Programme Learning Outcomes 

  1. Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and industrial design to the defined and applied engineering procedures, processes, systems or methodologies 
  2. Identify, formulate, research literature and solve broadly-defined engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using analytical tools appropriate   industrial design discipline. 
  3. Design solutions for broadly-defined industrial design engineering technology problems and contribute to the design of systems, components or processes to meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal and environmental considerations 
  4. Conduct investigations of broadly-defined industrial design problems; locate, search and select relevant data from codes, data bases and literature, design and conduct experiments to provide valid conclusion. 
  5. Select and apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering tools, including prediction and modeling, to broadly-defined industrial design engineering activities, with an understanding of the limitations. 
  6. Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse technical teams. 
  7. Communicate effectively on broadly defined engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, by being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations and give and receive clear instructions. 
  8. Demonstrate understanding of the societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities and norms of engineering technology practice. 
  9. Commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of engineering technology practice 
  10. Recognize the impact of engineering solutions in a societal context and demonstrate knowledge of and the need for sustainable development.
