10 UniKL research papers get best awards at ICARE ‘21

Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) has once again evinced its credibility in research papers as 17 researchers and academicians from the varsity were conferred with best awards at International Conference on Advancing and Redesigning Education 2021 (ICARE ‘21).

The leading entrepreneurial technical university in Malaysia saw three and seven research papers secure Best Paper Awards and Best Presenter Awards, respectively, at the conference that was hosted by UniKL Centre for Instructional Technology and Curriculum Development (CITC) starting from 22 November 2021.

Speaking after the closing ceremony of ICARE ‘21 today, Director of UniKL CITC, Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Kamaruzzaman Ismail said that UniKL has submitted 37 research papers which mostly related to Higher Technical and Vocational Education and Training (HTVET).

“As this conference is also jointly organised with other three universities, namely Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), Multimedia University (MMU) and Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), ICARE ‘21 has received a total of 66 research papers from those universities.

“At UniKL level, we plan to select 15 out of 37 submitted research papers to be published as book chapters which are projected to be due in two months’ time from now. This eventually will help UniKL to earn another recognition from SETARA, a rating system developed and introduced by the Higher Education Ministry (MoHE) in 2007,” said him, who is also the Committee Co-Chair of the conference.

Bearing the theme of Thriving in Times of Global Change, the three-day conference has managed to achieve its objectives which include establishing collaboration or cooperation opportunities between government-linked universities (GLUs) and emphasising in building relationships between academic and industry.

Apart from that, ICARE ‘21 is also intended to strengthen the research culture among GLU educators and researchers, specifically in teaching and learning areas, as well as to realign and redesign the education, post and beyond the Covid-19.

As ICARE ’21 is led and hosted by UniKL, another GLU university will lead ICARE ’23, in turn.

Meanwhile, Deputy President (Academic & Technology) of UniKL, YBhg. Prof. Dr. Shahrulniza Musa in his address during the ICARE ‘21 closing ceremony assured that every effort in making GLUs visible and a better place to welcome the young generation to pursue their dreams counts.

“As teaching and learning is the core business of any university, any approach to enrich, accommodate, innovate, and further develop these aspects into a new dimension shall be taken seriously by the GLU Council.

“At the GLU Council level, we take pride in the efforts shown by all authors within GLUs and other universities that are participating in ICARE ’21 to promote new ways of practices during global changes and the pandemic hence the motto for ICARE’21 is “Thriving in Times of Global Change,” he noted.

Also present virtually, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MMU, YBhg. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & Research) of UniTEN, YBhg Prof. Dato’ Dr. Siti Salbiah Mohamed Shariff; Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic of UTP, YBhg Prof. Ir Dr. Hilmi Mukhtar; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs, Alumni & Management) of UniTEN, YBhg.
