Datuk Dr Roziah is UniKL 4th President

YBHG Datuk Dr Roziah Omar has been named as the fourth President and Chief Executive Officer of Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL).

Her appointment was announced by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) chairman Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun recently.

“Datuk Dr Roziah’s appointment was based on her expertise, knowledge, experience and achievements as she had held several key positions at both national and international levels,” said Datuk Azizah in a statement.

“I am confident that with her personality, abilities and extensive experience in the field of education, she will perform well and will further improve UniKL’s position in the list of top universities in Asia and the world,” she said, adding that MARA is also confident that she would be able to drive UniKL to a higher level of excellence thus ensuring that the vision to become a leading technical entrepreneurship university in the country is achieved.

Datuk Dr Roziah, 65, who had previously served as the Deputy Director-General (Private Higher Education Institutions) at the Ministry of Higher Education, reported for duty on 1 July, 2021.

She succeeds Prof Dato’ Dr Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, who has since been appointed President and CEO of Multimedia University (MMU) in August 2020 after a successful seven-year stint as the President/CEO of UniKL. However, following the void, UniKL Deputy President Prof Dr Shahrulniza Musa (Academic and Technology) has served as Acting President and CEO.

UniKL Chairman Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Sukiman Sarmani said: “On behalf of the Board of Directors and UniKL family, I would like to extend my congratulations to Datuk Dr Roziah Omar on her appointment as President and CEO. We look forward to actively engaging in taking UniKL to greater heights.”

“I also take this opportunity to thank Prof Dr. Shahrulniza Musa who has served diligently in his capacity as Acting President and CEO,” he added in a statement.

Datuk Dr Roziah, a distinguished scholar with extensive achievements in research and leadership, earned her Bachelor’s degree in anthropology and sociology from the University of Malaya (1980), Masters from Ohio University (1982) and University of California, Berkeley (1987) respectively and obtained her PhD from the University of California, Berkeley (1992) in the United States.

She had also attended courses at Harvard University and Judge Business School, Cambridge University.

Datuk Dr Roziah also served as a board member of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UNISZA), Universiti Perguruan Sultan Idris Shah (UPSI), Universiti Malaya (UM), Kolej-Poly Tech MARA (KPTM) and several others.
