Kuala Lumpur (24 January, 2019): Forward Faridzul Afiq Mohd has found the going tough in search of goals in the Malaysian Hockey Premier League this season and is hoping to break the jinx against Nur Insafi at the Tengku Abdullah Stadium in Bangi tomorrow.

The Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) forward scored two goals in the 2018 Tan Sri P. Alagendra Cup and also netted seven goals in the Premier League.

However, things have not been going the same way for the 27-year-old this season so far. After three matches, Faridzul has yet to score.

“I came close to scoring but ran out of luck,” said Faridzul, who joined UniKL in 2017 after a four-year stint with Sapura. “But I will continue to search for my first goal of the season and hopefully it comes tomorrow. It will mean a lot to me, spurring me to get back to my scoring touch.”

“It has been a wonderful experience playing alongside some of the best players in the world,” said Faridzul, obviously referring to the Dutch-connection of Martijn Havenga, Robbert Kemperman and Valentin Verga, Ireland goalkeeper David Harte, and Australian Kieran Govers and Timothy Deavin.

“They have speed and are very experienced. I have to keep pace with them upfront all the time,” he said with a wryly smile. “If I can help the team score it is good and I am looking towards that. But at the end of the day the satisfaction of UniKL winning a match is far greater than anything.”

Nur Insafi, he added, has taken new heights with the inclusion of several experienced players that includes former Pakistan captain Waseem Ahmed, Abdul Asim Khan, Imran Abbas and Muhammad Kashif Javed.

“When we last played Nur Insafi in a friendly match before the Alagendra Cup both teams were devoid of their foreign signings then and I am sure tomorrow’s match is going to be very exciting.”
