Incredible experience for Team YNCREDIBLES

Congratulations to Universiti Kuala Lumpur Team YNCREDIBLES for an inspiring effort in the Malaysian chapter of the AliBaba GET Global Challenge 2020 at Malaysia Global Innovation & Creativity Centre (MAGIC) in Cyberjaya on August 15.

The five members of YNCREDIBLES are Muhammad Afdhal Khan (Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (Hons) BMI), Nur Amirah Aseri (Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Hons) in Electronics, BMI), Nur Awadah Ismail (Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons) in Software Engineering, MIIT), Anuar Azizi (Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons) in Software Engineering, MIIT) and Heizlyn Amyneina Hamzah (UPM).

Never mind that Team YNCREDIBLES – a combination force of students from UniKL British Malaysian Institute and UniKL Malaysian Institute of Information Technology – did not win the hearts of the jury in their Digital Solution App presentation called Mentaline to finish among the top 5 and qualify for the World Finals from Aug 17-25. Mentaline caters online consultation for mental illness and psychology issues – during and post Covid-19.

For the record, the top 5 teams that advanced to the world stage are HELP University, Taylor’s University (2 teams), Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) and Sunway University.

This is the first time UniKL participated in the AliBaba GET Global Challenge, coming through the qualifying rounds with flying colours, and being among the top 12 teams for the finals is a great achievement.

“There were 208 teams that went through the filtering process in the first round. I was informed that more than 30 teams were from universities. We were among 40 teams shortlisted for the second round and made it to the top 12 final,” said YNCREDIBLES team leader Afdhal Khan. “We are not disappointed at all for not making the top five.”

“We trained hard and did our best in the AliBaba GET Global Challenge 2020. At the end of the day it just came down to little things during our presentation as explained by the jury. Nevertheless, it was a good starting line for us to move on. We can always participate in other competitions such as Sandbox and University Startup Challenge,” he added. The team was also assisted and supported by Teknoputra Division and campuses.

Alibaba Business School launched the Global E-Commerce Talent (GET) Global Challenge 2020, a competition meant to empower the next generation of entrepreneurial talents to contribute by creating

transformative digital solutions in collaboration with mentors and partners from the Alibaba network.

The theme this year is aimed at helping businesses and organisations worldwide recover faster and rebound stronger in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
