SRC Leadership Camp 2023 : From student voices to university impact

Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) is revolutionising student leadership development with its groundbreaking induction programme for the Student Representative Council (SRC) in 2023.

Breaking away from the conventional SRC induction programme that primarily focuses on students’ intellectual capacities, this year’s leadership camp aims to foster stronger bonds among student representatives.

According to the President of UniKL Student Representative Council (USRC), Zulfikri Zulkifli, UniKL’s induction programme represents more than a mere formality—it signifies a paradigm shift in student leadership development.

“It goes beyond traditional training methods by incorporating immersive simulations and experiential learning, ensuring student representatives are equipped to tackle real-world issues effectively,” he said.

The leadership camp, held from 19 to 21 May 2023 at PDS Training Camp in Port Dickson, saw the participation of around 130 UniKL students from 12 campuses.

Recognising the importance of diverse perspectives, the induction programme encourages cross-disciplinary collaboration among student representatives.

Through team-building exercises, collaborative projects, and interdisciplinary workshops, UniKL aims to create a cohesive and united student council that can effectively address a wide range of issues faced by the student community.

Additionally, the programme witnessed SRC’s first engagement with Prof. Dr. Zalizah Awang Long, UniKL’s new Deputy President for Student Development and Campus Lifestyle (SDCL).
