UniKL In The World University Rankings

UNIVERSITI Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) marked a major milestone when it made the list of the 2021 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.

Malaysia’s largest private technical entrepreneurial university under the purview of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), UniKL is ranked in the 1000+ band, performing far better than most public and private higher institutions in the country.

The Times Higher Education World Rankings 2021 includes more than 1500 universities across 93 countries and regions, making it the largest and most diverse university rankings to date.

The rankings are also translated to mean that UniKL is among the most sought after universities in Malaysia. The table is based on 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators that measure an institution’s performance across four areas – teaching, research, knowledge transfers and international outlook.

UniKL Acting President and Chief Executive Officer Prof Dr Shahrulniza Musa said he is excited with UniKL’s position among the top universities in the world and credited faculty, staff and administrators across 12 UniKL campuses.

“Firstly I want to applaud UniKL for making into the Times Higher Education 2021 World Rankings. This is the first time we achieved this milestone and it speaks volume of our quality of education,” said Prof Dr Shahrulniza.

“Being a university that embarks on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), the recognition by Times Higher Education World Rankings has given us global attention. Our programmes are hands-on based and we produce graduates according to the needs of the industry,” he added.

He added that although UniKL’s philosophy remained the same as a technical university it is nevertheless moving forward through innovations in technology.

“It is also due to the culture of excellence embedded in UnikL. We implement strategic plans and embark on working towards that direction to become among the top universities in the world. The Times Higher Education World Rankings is the result of our hard work and we can do much better,” he said.

Established in 2002, UniKL offers more than 130 industry-oriented programmes in foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate studies. The university has a current enrolment of 22,000 students and introduced the latest technology in teaching methods such as the use of smart boards, and extensive research projects.

UniKL’s reputation as a brand name in Asia has seen the university’s extensive links with universities and institutions around the world. Our collaborations range from student exchange and teaching partnerships to joint research on global matters.

Thus it is no surprise that UniKL maintained its status as the ‘People’s Choice’ university in the country by winning the Putra Brand Award silver medal for two consecutive years (2018/2019) and the BrandLaureate Awards 2016-2017 in

Corporate Branding Best Brand in Education-Technical Learning. This a testimony of the continuous recognition to the credibility of the Universiti Kuala Lumpur brand.

Times Higher Education World Rankings also revealed that universities in Asia are slowly growing to overtake Western institutions as their global positions continue to propel upwards.
