UniKL commences smart refit work on CB90H 102

Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Marine Engineering Technology (UniKL MIMET) and UniKL Resources Sdn. Bhd. (URSB) have commenced the execution of smart refit work for CB90H 102, a vessel belonging to the Royal Malaysia Navy (RMN).

For the record, UniKL MIMET and URSB are respectively, UniKL’s Lumut, Perak-based campus and its wholly-owned subsidiary.

The vessel has been officially handed over by RMN to both parties on 17 March 2022.

According to URSB, the work will be carried out for the next thirty days until 15 April 2022.

As part of the technical university’s Teaching Factory concept, all work will be undertaken at UniKL MIMET’s shipyard in Lumut by utilising the available expertise and facilities.

This involves the refit work scopes of Hull and Superstructure; Propulsion; Electrical; Navigation; Communication; Auxiliary and Domestic; Damage Control Fire Fighting and Life Saving; as well as Machinery and Miscellaneous.

Besides the commercial gain, the project will also provide a real industry environment to UniKl MIMET’s students and staff through internships or assignments.

Notably, UniKL MIMET offers industry-specific maritime engineering technology programmes aimed at producing highly competent personnel for the global marine and maritime industry.

UniKL MIMET’s programmes are also recognised or accredited by international professional bodies and regulatory bodies namely IMarEST, RINA, CILT and Jabatan Laut Malaysia.

Courses offered are in the fields of Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Marine Electrical & Electronics as well as Maritime Management.
