LIMA’23: UniKL forges ‘sky-high’ collaboration with aviation industry leaders

Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) solidified its position as a prominent force in the aviation sector by signing Letters of Intent (LOIs) with three leading aviation companies at the Langkawi International Maritime & Aerospace Exhibition 2023 (LIMA’23) today.

This strategic move aims to harness the expertise of UniKL’s aviation institute, UniKL Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL MIAT), while fostering mutually beneficial relationships with industry players.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW), YAB Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, while UniKL was represented by its President and Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Dr. Roziah Omar.

Also present were KKDW’s Secretary-General, YBhg. Dato’ Ramlan Harun; Chairman of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) and Pro-Chancellor of UniKL, YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Asyraf Wajdi Dato’ Dusuki; Director-General of MARA, YBhg. Dato’ Azhar Abdul Manaf; Deputy Director-General (Education) of MARA, YBhg. En. Razlan Haji Samsuri; and Group Chief Executive Officer of MARA Corporation Sdn Bhd, YBhg. Dato’ Julainie Mohd Salleh.

The first LOI was exchanged with Aerostar Technologies (M) Sdn. Bhd., which will see the company provide consultation on non-standard aircraft structure repair for military aircraft.

This guidance will equip UniKL MIAT staff with practical knowledge and exposure to non-standard aircraft structure repair works, enabling them to excel in their field.

UniKL MIAT continues to take flight with the second LOI signed with BATS Aviation Sdn. Bhd., aiming to enrich the ground pilot training content for UniKL MIAT’s future Diploma Programme. This ensures that students receive top-tier education aligned with industry demands.

Moreover, UniKL MIAT graduates will be granted the opportunity to pursue their Commercial Pilot License (CPL) through BATS Aviation, propelling their careers to new heights.

Additionally, the partnership involves a Teaching Factory concept wherein both institutions collaborate on aircraft component repairs, providing a hands-on learning experience for students.

Meanwhile, the collaboration between UniKL MIAT and Mirakama Sdn. Bhd. will focus on the development of in-flight safety and aviation hospitality training programmes.

UniKL MIAT’s integral role in the early stages of this collaboration will be to provide a training venue for short-term courses.

In a display of UniKL’s commitment to innovation, the university also forged a collaboration with Asia Digital Engineering through an LOI exchange during the exhibition, witnessed by the Deputy Minister of Transport, YB Datuk Haji Hasbi Haji Habibollah.

UniKL MIAT and Asia Digital Engineering will join forces to develop a future-oriented Metaverse training model for the Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) industry.
