Foundation in Science and Arts

Overview

The Foundation in Science and Arts is a 1-year full time comprehensive programme designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge and learning essential for the smooth transition to undertake an undergraduate degree at local and overseas universities. The programme offers diverse modules in disciplines such as technical science, management, finances, mass communication and visual arts. By the end of the programme, students will have a clearer direction and better understanding of their fields of interest. The modules offered will enhance students’ academic knowledge, expose students to latest developments in the respective areas of studies and foster their critical thinking skills.

This is a self-sponsored programme and no financial assistance will be provided to the students.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)
  • PEO1
    Graduates who are knowledgeable and competent in their respective field of study, capable of pursuing further education at Universiti Kuala Lumpur or other institutions of higher learning.
  • PEO2
    Graduates who are able to use knowledge and comprehension to identify and apply data in response to concrete and complex problems.
  • PEO3
    Graduates who have (ethical disposition), effective leadership and team work as well as verbal, non-verbal and interpersonal communication skills to relate to peers and supervisors.

    Graduates who are innovative and committed to the importance of lifelong learning and continuous improvement.

Graduates can pursue various career paths depending on their chosen field in continuing their degree either in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Science, Arts, or Business. Common options include engineering and engineering technology for engineering and engineering technology graduates, and healthcare for the science graduates, and bussiness technology for bussiness graduates.
Entry Requirements Local Student
  • Engineering Programme (Bachelor) Pathway: Pass SPM / SPMV / O-Level with at least credits in FIVE (5) subjects including Mathematics and 1 Physical Science subject.
  • Engineering Technology Programme (Bachelor) Pathway: Pass SPM / SPMV / O-Level with at least credits in FIVE (5) subjects including Mathematics and 1 Science / Technical / Vocational subject.
  • Science Programme (Bachelor) Pathway: Pass SPM / SPMV / O-Level with at least credits in FIVE (5) subjects including Mathematics and 2 Science subjects.
  • Arts / IT / Business Programme (Bachelor) Pathway: Pass SPM / SPMV / O-Level with at least credits in FIVE (5) subjects including Mathematics.

Program Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate an understanding of how communication shapes patterns of social interaction, the expression of cultural values and norms, political practices and relations of power, and our positions as local and global citizens.

Be able to use a variety of methodological tools to analyze interpersonal, intercultural, and rhetorical discourse that structures everyday interactions in both our public and private lives.

Demonstrate an understanding of the possibilities, problems, and history of discourse and deliberation in democracy and will be prepared to use their knowledge to work for a just and more humane world.
