Program Learning Outcomes
Overview
The Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical program aims to provide graduates with advanced knowledge and competencies to carry out research and development in Mechanical Engineering, Design & Manufacturing, Automotive, Industrial Engineering, Materials Engineering, and Dynamics & Vibration.
Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)
In order to achieve the programme aims stated above, this master programme is expected to:
- PEO 1:
Knowledge impartation – Provide students with advanced knowledge in engineering analysis, design, research and innovation in mechanical engineering technology. - PEO 2:
Leadership, Teamwork and Interpersonal Skills – Develop the skills pertinent to the research process, including students’ ability to lead the research work, synthesize and integrate information, work collaboratively, communicate effectively and to publish the results of their research in mechanical engineering technology. - PEO 3:
Lifelong Learning – Continue to advance their knowledge and skill in mechanical engineering technology knowledge for lifelong learning and possess the ability to communicate effectively for scholarly contributions in enhancing technical knowledge. - PEO 4:
Ethics and Professional Service – Develop the ability to accomplish professional ethics and responsibilities, able to communicate and function effectively on multi-disciplinary teams involving people from diverse backgrounds and affiliations, local and global alike. - PEO 5:
Technopreneurial – Explore and/or embark on business and technopreneurial activities in the field of mechanical engineering technology and promote sustainable economic development to meet the global demands and dynamics.
Programme Learning Outcomes (PLOs)
- PLO 1:
Demonstrate mastery of knowledge in mechanical engineering technology and have the capabilities to further develop or use these in new situations or multi-disciplinary context. - PLO 2:
Apply practical skills related to mechanical engineering technology and to provide solutions through the application of appropriate tools and techniques. - PLO 3:
Relate ideas to societal issues in the mechanical engineering technology context. - PLO 4:
Conduct research with minimal supervision and adhere to legal, ethical and professional codes of practice. - PLO 5:
Demonstrate leadership qualities through communicating and working effectively with peers and stakeholders. - PLO 6:
Generate solutions to problems using scientific and critical thinking skills. - PLO 7:
Manage information for lifelong learning.

Graduates of this Bachelor may find employment as:

Entry Requirements
- Recognized Master’s degree (Malaysian Qualifications Framework, MQF Level 7) in Mechanical Engineering or its equivalent; or
- Other qualifications equivalent to a Master’s degree (MQF Level 7) that are accepted by the Senate of Universiti Kuala Lumpur.
- For International students, TOEFL score of 500 OR IELTS score of 5.0 OR its equivalent. If a student does not meet this requirement, HEPs must offer English proficiency courses to ensure that the student’s proficiency is sufficient to meet the needs of the programme. This is normally conducted through an assessment process.
- All international students who wish to follow a course of study at UniKL must meet the requirements of competence in English language as specified in the programme standard, or by the approved entry requirement, except:
- International students who come from a country that uses English as a spoken language; or

Demonstrate an understanding of how communication shapes patterns of social interaction, the expression of cultural values and norms, political practices and relations of power, and our positions as local and global citizens.
Be able to use a variety of methodological tools to analyze interpersonal, intercultural, and rhetorical discourse that structures everyday interactions in both our public and private lives.
Demonstrate an understanding of the possibilities, problems, and history of discourse and deliberation in democracy and will be prepared to use their knowledge to work for a just and more humane world.
