Asia Rail Centre was established on 23 March 2016 by MARA as a new professional centre focusing on rail technology. It is recognised as the nation’s first national higher institute focusing on rail technology offering professional courses, licence programmes and customised courses for professional development of the rail industry workforce in Malaysia.

Asia Rail offers programmes in the field of railway domain including rolling stock, signalling & communication, electrification, permanent way, railway safety, scheduling, customer service, maintenance operation and the management of rail technology. Asia Rail is the only non-railway operator with the ‘Rolling Stock’ facilities in South East Asia. The development, design and commissioning of the rolling stock facilities were all performed by UniKL’s very own industry experts. Currently, there are three full- time railway experts with a combined of 15 years industrial experience at UniKL Asia Rail.

Asia Rail has also gone on to establish partnerships and collaborations with key organisations and institutes within the country and around the world, among them Rapid Rail, Prasarana, MRT, KTMB, Malaysian Rail Link (MRL), MyHSR, Technology Depository Agency (TDA), China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), Siemens Malaysia, Bombardier, Hartasuma, CRRC, CCCC-GK, Rasma Corporation and CMC Engineering. While our institutional partners include MTR Hong Kong, International Railway Signalling Engineers (IRSE), University of Sevilla, ADIF SPAIN, DB Rail Germany, JR Kyushu and Hunan Vocational College of Railway Technology.

Asia Rail also benefits from the Industrial Collaboration Programme (ICP) which is managed by the Technology Depository Agency (TDA), an agency under the Ministry of Finance. These partnerships and collaborations will elevate Asia Rail’s capability and capacity in providing world-class academic delivery in key strategic areas in the rail industry.

All courses and customised programmes are offered to companies or individuals who are looking to enhance their careers, especially in the railway industry.

The railway industry demands competent and knowledgeable young talents to lead and manage the railway industry in various critical fields. Thus, UniKL is committed in its efforts to produce highly skilled graduates for not just Malaysia’s railway industry, but Asia’s as well. This will propel the country to greater advancement towards becoming a highly-skilled and developed nation.
