Program Learning Outcomes

Overview
The BCET programme at UniKL MICET covers topics in foundation and chemical engineering technology. Throughout the programme, students learn both fundamental and specialized subjects. Some subjects build upon previously learned knowledge, creating a continuous flow of learning. The programme offers three main specializations, which students can choose starting from semester five: process, polymer, and environment. It focuses on teaching students about the design, operation, and maintenance of chemical and material manufacturing processes. In addition, the programme covers developing new processes, project engineering, and troubleshooting, preparing students for a wide range of industries such as petrochemical, chemical processing, advanced materials, information technology, environment, food, pharmaceutical, and biotechnological industries.

Programme Learning Outcomes (PLOs)
  • PLO1
    Engineering Knowledge:
    Apply knowledge of mathematics, natural science, computing and chemical engineering technology as specified in SK1 to SK4, respectively to defined and applied engineering procedures, processes, systems or methodologies.
  • PLO2
    Problem Analysis:
    Identify, formulate, research literature and analyse broadly-defined chemical engineering technology problems reaching substantiated conclusions using analytical tools appropriate to their discipline or area of specialisation with considerations for sustainable development; (SK1 to SK4).
  • PLO3
    Design/Development of Solutions:
    Design solutions for broadly-defined chemical engineering technology problems and contribute to the design of systems, components or processes to meet identified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, whole-life cost, net zero carbon as well as resource, cultural, societal, and environmental considerations as required; (SK5).

    Investigation:
    Conduct investigations of broadly-defined chemical engineering technology problems; locate, search and select relevant data from codes, databases and literature, design and conduct experiments to provide valid conclusions; (SK8).

    Tool Usage:
    Select and apply, and recognize limitations of appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools, including prediction and modelling, to broadly-defined chemical engineering technology problems; (SK2 and SK6).

    The Engineering Technologist and The World:
    Analyze and evaluate sustainable development impacts to: society, the economy, sustainability, health and safety, legal frameworks, and the environment, in solving broadly-defined chemical engineering technology problems; (SK1, SK5, and SK7).

Career Information

Chemical engineering is primarily the application of chemical principles to industrial processes and environmental problems that resulting a change in composition and properties of matter to benefit society and the environment. Thus, chemical engineers play an important role in the design, development, construction and operation of industrial processes for the production of diverse range of products as well as in commodity and specialty chemicals. They can focus on one or more of the following roles: managing scale-up processes from plant to full industrial-scale manufacturing, researching new products from trial through to commercialization, modifying and improving the processing or product lines, as well as designing and commissioning new plants.

Entry Requirements
  • Pass Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) or equivalent with minimum Grade C (CGPA 2.0) in Mathematics and ONE (1) relevant science subject OR
  • Pass A-Level with minimum Grade D in Mathematics and ONE (1) relevant science subject OR
  • Pass matriculation with minimum CGPA 2.0 with minimum Grade C (CGPA 2.0) in Mathematics and ONE (1) relevant science subject OR
  • STAM with minimum Jayyid minimum Grade C (CGPA 2.0) in Mathematics and ONE (1) relevant science subject or equivalent OR
  • Pass in International Baccalaureate (IB) with at least 24 points OR
  • Recognised Diploma in Engineering or Engineering Technology or equivalent with minimum CGPA 2.0 OR
  • Pass Higher National Diploma (HND) UK (MQF Level 4) in related area and recognized by government of Malaysia and according to approval by UniKL Senate OR
  • Recognised related Technical / Vocational / Skills Diploma with minimum CGPA 2.0 OR
  • APEL A as prescribed by MQA based on appropriate justifications by the IHL
Note 1: Entry DVM/DKM & DLKM starting 21 April 2020
  • Pass Diploma Kemahiran Malaysia (DKM)/ Diploma Lanjutan Kemahiran Malaysia (DLKM)/ Diploma Vokasional Malaysia (DVM) with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 and the programme must get Full Accreditation (FA) by MQA or other Accreditation bodies that are recognized by government of Malaysia and according to approval by UniKL Senate OR
  • Pass the DKM/DLKM/DVM with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 AND have at least two (2) years of work experience in the related field. The programme must get Full Accreditation (FA) by MQA or other Accreditation bodies that are recognized by government of Malaysia and according to approval by UniKL Senate.
Note 2: For International students
  • Minimum requirements IELTS 5.0 or equivalent.
  • Qualification of 12 years of schooling with the following conditions:
    • It is the highest school qualification in the country of origin.
    • It can be used as entry qualification for bachelor’s degree programme in the country of origin.
  • Students who enrol with qualification from institutions that fully use English as the language of instruction or from English speaking countries are EXCLUDED from the requirements of competence in English language.
