Program Learning Outcomes
Overview
Bachelor of Environmental Management and Sustainability Technology (BEMST) offers both TVET courses and business management within one program. Malaysia has made a commitment to transition towards a low-carbon economy and attain carbon neutrality by the year 2050. There is a pressing need to expedite implementation of green initiatives, which will ultimately contribute to the needs of environmental professionals in overseeing and managing operations conducted by both public and private sectors. Bursa Malaysia’s decision to make Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) Reporting mandatory for publicly traded companies has increased employers’ interest in recruiting graduates who possess not only technical proficiency but also demonstrate adeptness in efficiently and effectively managing business operations. ESG is one of the courses offered in this program with embedded professional certificate.
BEMST is a collaboration between UniKL Malaysian Institute of Chemical and Bioengineering Technology (MICET) with UniKL Business School (UBIS). BEMST is accredited by Malaysia Board of Technologies (MBOT), allowing our graduates to apply for Professional Technologist designation with the prefix “Ts” in front of their name. The program will run in both UniKL campuses: 2 years in UniKL MICET and another year at UniKL UBIS. Additionally, 30% subjects taught during the 3rd year are eligible for credit transfer to Master of Business Administration (MBA) at UniKL UBIS. This will provide an excellent platform for BEMST graduates to complete their undergraduate and postgraduate degrees within four and half years.
BEMST has been developed through a cross-disciplinary approach drawing on expertise from both campuses and practitioners within business, commerce and industry. Other than ESG, the programme also embedded Professional Certificates Lead Auditor for Integrated Management System ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 and Course on Certified Environmental Professional in Scheduled Waste Management-CePSWAM.

| CSB11303 | MATHEMATICS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT | This course covers the basic mathematical topics on linear function, quadratic function, matrices, indices and logarithms. It emphasizes on developing the students’ mathematical competencies to prepare them for application in environmental management. The main method of delivery combines lecture, tutorial and group work to generate students’ interest. |
| CSB11402 | BASIC DATA VISUALISATION | This course provides an essential introduction on how to effectively present data through charts, graphs, and dashboards. Using accessible tools like Microsoft Excel and Power BI, learners will explore the fundamentals of visual design, chart selection, data transformation, and storytelling with data. |
| CSB11002 | TECHNICAL DRAWING | This course covers the use of engineering drawing software for drafting, design and building application. |
| CSB10304 | PRINCIPLES OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE, MANAGEMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY TECHNOLOGY | The course introduces the main elements of environmental science, their relationships, and the anthropogenic effect. It also helps students understand the key areas of environmental management, such as natural resource management, environmental quality, and land use. The student will also learn about the three pillars of sustainability that will relate to business practices. |
| CSB10603 | SUSTAINABLE WASTE MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGY | This course is designed with the aim to provide students with the information on solid and scheduled waste management practices nationally. The topics covers key element of integrated waste management including waste characterization, collection, recycling, composting, energy recovery, treatment and disposal. Concepts such as waste prevention, circular economy and cradle to cradle will also be discussed in the course, which strategies will assist them as future technologist in pollution prevention and resource conservation. |
