Program Learning Outcomes

Overview

The Diploma in Maritime Management (DMM) is a specialised programme designed to equip students with knowledge in maritime operations and management, marine technology, and logistics. The programme offers courses that are grouped into three main areas, namely maritime operations, business management, and freight logistics.

The introduction of this programme is expected to fulfil the needs of the current workforce as well as individuals aspiring to join the maritime industry. It also supports the Malaysia Shipping Masterplan 2017–2022, which emphasises the development of local maritime experts and services to strengthen the Malaysian shipping industry.

This programme is suitable for school leavers who aspire to seek employment in the maritime sector, including government maritime agencies, shipbuilding and ship repair companies, maritime transport operators, seaports, logistics companies, offshore support services, marine insurance providers, and other maritime ancillary services. The curriculum development, facilities planning, human capital requirements, and budget estimation have been carefully undertaken to support effective programme delivery.

Career Information

This programme prepares students with relevant competencies in the field of maritime operations. Graduates will be able to acquire opportunities for positions as skilled workers or junior executives in maritime transport and freight logistics companies, apart from assuming roles in the public sector. This programme also provides students with knowledge of interpersonal communication, creative thinking, general management, and maritime and port operations activities. At the end of the programme, students will undergo an internship of up to 24 weeks (6 months). During this period, students will obtain hands-on experience by working in the maritime sector.

Entry Requirements:

Local Student
  • Possesses Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) with at least credit in THREE subjects; OR
  • Possesses SKM level 3 in the related field; OR
  • A certificate (level 3, MQF) in the related field with at least CGPA of 2.00; OR
  • A pass in Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) with at least Grade C (GP 2.0) in any subject; OR
  • A pass in Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) with at least Grade Maqbul; OR
  • Other equivalent qualifications recognised by the Malaysian Government.
English Competency Requirement (International Students)
  • Achieve a minimum Band 3 in MUET OR equivalent to CEFR (High B1)**
