Diploma In Maritime Management

Diploma Pengurusan Maritim

The Diploma in Maritime Management (DMM) is a specialised programme designed to equip students with the knowledge in maritime operations and management, marine technology and logistics. This programme will offer courses that can be grouped into 3 areas namely maritime operations, business management as well as freight logistics. The introduction of this programme is expected to fulfill the needs of the workforce currently employed and aspiring to join the maritime industry. This programme is also expected to support Malaysia Shipping Masterplan 2017-2022 that emphasizes on the needs to develop local maritime experts and services to support Malaysian shipping.

This programme is suitable for school leavers who aspire to seek employment in the maritime sector such as government maritime agencies, shipbuilding and ship repair companies, maritime transport, seaport, logistics companies, offshore support, marine insurance and other maritime ancillary services. The preparation of the curriculum, identification of the required facilities, human capital and budget estimation have been carried out and the summaries are presented in this paper. The courses offered in the Diploma in Maritime Management will be divided into university compulsory courses and core courses.



Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)

After 5 years from the completion of the programme, graduates should be able to meet the following objectives:

    UniKL graduates who are knowledgeable, competent, and innovative human capital in maritime operations and related industry.

    UniKL graduates who have effective leadership with teamwork skills, as well as verbal, non-verbal interpersonal communication skills in to support their role in industry.

    UniKL graduates who are committed to the importance of lifelong learning and continuous improvement.
  • PEO 4
    UniKL graduate who are practices professionalism with ethics and social responsibility; and
  • PEO 5
    UniKL graduate who are capable of embarking on business and technopreneurial activities.


Programme Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

    Demonstrate the understanding and apply knowledge of fundamental maritime operations, management and ocean science.
  • PLO 2
    Solve problems in maritime operations through the integration of knowledge of mathematics, ocean science, marine technology, cargo handling, information and communication technology (ICT) and management science.

    Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of maritime industry in management, business practices, and entrepreneurial competencies in addressing business issues.
  • PLO 4
    Demonstrate teamwork, interpersonal, effective communication and social skills.
  • PLO 5
    Display professional and ethical business conduct in maritime operations and management.
  • PLO 6
    Recognize and utilize the skills and principles of lifelong learning in their academic and career development.
Career
This programme that prepares students with relevant competencies in the field of maritime operations. Graduates will be able to acquire opportunity for a position of skills worker or junior executive in maritime transport and freight logistics companies apart from assuming roles in the public sectors. This programme also provides students with the knowledge of interpersonal communication, creative thinking, general management and maritime and port operations activities. At the end of the programme, students will undergo an internship up to 24 weeks (6 months). During this period, students will obtain hands-on experience by working in the maritime sector.

    • Possesses Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) with at least credit in THREE subjects; OR
    • Possesses SKM level 3 in the related field; OR
    • A certificate (level 3, MQF) in the related field with at least CGPA of 2.00; OR
    • A pass in Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) with at least Grade C (GP 2.0) in any subject; OR
    • A pass in Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) with at least Grade Maqbul; OR
    • Pass O Level with at least credit in any 3 subjects.
    • Pass Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) (MQF Level 3) qualification and the programme must get Full Accreditation (FA) by MQA or others
    • Accreditation bodies that had been recognized by government of Malaysia and according to approval by UniKL Senate.
    • Pass Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM) qualification and recognized by government of Malaysia and according to approval by UniKL
      Senate.

      Other equivalent qualifications recognised by the Malaysian Government

      Note:
      SVM is recognized as equivalent to 3 credit SPM for candidates who obtain:

      • Academic CGPA is equal to or greater than 2.00;
      • Vocational CGPA is equal to or greater than 2.67 and competent in all vocational modules;
      • Credit in Bahasa Melayu with SVM Code 1104 and;
      • Pass Sejarah for graduate cohort 2013 – 2016
