Diploma of Engineering Technology in Avionics Maintenance

Diploma Teknologi Kejuruteraan Penyelenggaraan Avionik

This programme will be taught in 6 semesters (3 years) which will cover all aspects of avionic systems, its operation and maintenance. The syllabus encompasses the fundamentals and practical of electrical and electronic systems which also includes electronics instrumentation, aircraft electrical systems and the maintenance of the aircraft electrical and instrument systems.

Upon completion of the programme, the graduates will be awarded Diploma of Engineering Technology in Avionics Maintenance. This comprehensive programme will prepare the graduates to be readily absorbed by the aviation industry such as airlines, maintenance and repair organization, aircraft vendors, and also avionics repair stations or workshops. With the growth in aviation industry locally and internationally, this programme will provide greater employment opportunities for the graduates.

Programme Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

Majors in Avionics Maintenance will be able to:

  • PLO 1
    Apply knowledge of applied mathematics, applied science, engineering fundamentals and aircraft engineering specialisation as wide practical procedures and practices specified in DK1 to DK4 respectively to defined practical procedures and practices.
  • PLO 2
    Identify and analyse well-defined aircraft engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using codified methods for analysis specific to their field of activity (DK1 to DK4)
  • PLO 3
    Design solutions for well define aircraft technical problems and assist with the design of systems, components or processes to meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal and environmental considerations (DK5)
  • PLO 4
    Conduct investigations of well-defined problems, locate and search relevant codes and catalogues, conduct standard tests and measurements
  • PLO 5
    Apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering and IT tools to well-defined aircraft engineering problems, with an awareness of the limitations (DK6)
  • PLO 6
    Demonstrate knowledge of the societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to aircraft engineering technician practice and solutions to well-defined aircraft engineering technology problems (DK7)

    Understand and evaluate the sustainability and impact of aircraft engineering technician work in the solution of well-defined engineering problems in societal and environmental context (DK7)

    Understand and commit professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of aircraft technician practice

Career Information

Upon completion, DET Avionics Maintenance holders may register as an Engineering Technologist and join the industrial workforce to be able to hold positions such as assistant Engineer, senior technician or technician.

  • Technician or assistant engineer in electronics, electrical and instrumentation company
  • Teaching lab assistant in the avionics, electronics, electrical and instrumentation technology
  • Instructor in the avionics, electronics, electrical and instrumentation company or school.

      • Pass in SPM or its equivalent with at least credits (minimum Grade C and higher) in Mathematics and Natural Sciences or Technical Based Subjects; OR
      • Accredited Certificate in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Technical or Malaysian Skills Certificate Level 3 with PT3; or its equivalent; OR
      • Recognized related Technical/Vocational/Skills qualifications AND an adequate and relevant bridging programme; OR
      • Matriculation Technical or Science Stream; OR
      • APEL A as prescribed by MQA based on appropriate justifications by the IHL; OR
      • Pass in O-Level with minimum Grade C in three (3) subjects including Mathematics and science or technical based subjects; OR
      • Pass Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) (MQF Level 3) qualification and the program must get Full Accreditation (FA) by MQA or others Accreditation bodies that had been recognized by government of Malaysia and according to approval by UniKL Senate.
      • Pass in Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM) qualification been recognized by government of Malaysia and according to approval by UniKL Senate. SVM is recognized as equivalent to 3 credits SPM for candidates who obtain:
        1. Academic CGPA is equal to or greater than 2.00;
        2. Vocational CGPA is equal to or greater than 2.67 and competent in all vocational modules;
        3. Credit in Bahasa Melayu with SVM Code 1104;
        4. Pass in Sejarah for graduate cohort 2013-2016
