Overview
The Diploma of Engineering Technology in Railway System programme is an application of ā2U 1iā concept as a mode of study. Students will undergo two years of theoretical study at UniKL MIDI and one-year training attachment with the railway industry (2U1i).
The blended study of theoretical and Work Based Learning (WBL) with industry will produce competent railway workforce for the railway industry especially in Rolling Stock and Signalling and Communications.
Programme Educational Objectives (PEO)
- PEO1:
UniKL graduates who are knowledgeable, competent and innovative in railway industry and other related industry. - PEO2:
UniKL graduates with effective leadership and teamwork skills as well as verbal, non-verbal and interpersonal communication skills to support their role in railway industry. - PEO3:
UniKL graduates who are committed to the importance of lifelong learning and continuous improvement. - PEO4:
UniKL graduates who practice professionalism with ethics and social responsibility in railway industry. - PEO5:
UniKL graduates who are capable of embarking on business and technopreneurial activities in railway industry.
Programme Learning Outcomes (PLO)
- PLO1:
Knowledge: Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and railway engineering specialisation principles to well-defined practical procedures and practices. - PLO2:
Problem analysis: Identify and analyse well-defined engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using codified methods of analysis specific to railway field of activity. - PLO3:
Design/ Development of solutions: Design solutions for well-defined railway technical problems and assist with the design of system, components or processes to meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal, and environmental considerations. - PLO4:
Investigation: Conduct Investigation of well-defined railway problems: locate and search relevant codes and catalogues, conduct standard tests and measurements. - PLO5:
Modern tool usage: Apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools to well-defined railway engineering problems, with an awareness of the limitations. - PLO6:
The Engineer and Society: Demonstrate knowledge societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to railway engineering technician practice and solutions to well-defined railway engineering problems. - PLO7:
Environment and sustainability: Understand and evaluate the sustainability and impact of railway engineering technician work in the solution of well-defined railway engineering problems in societal and environmental contexts. - PLO8:
Ethics: Understand and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of technician practice. - PLO9:
Individual and Teamwork: Function effectively as an individual and as a member in diverse technical teams. - PLO10:
Communications: Communicate effectively on well-defined railway engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at larger by being able to comprehend the work of others, document their own work, and give and receive clear instructions. - PLO11:
Project Management and Finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of railway engineering management principles and apply these to oneās own work as member or leader in a technical team and to manage projects in multidisciplinary environments. - PLO12:
Lifelong Learning: Recognize the need for and have the ability to engage in independent and lifelong learning in specialist technologies.

- Pass in SPM or its equivalent with at least credits (minimum Grade C and higher) in Mathematics and Natural Sciences or Technical Based Subjects OR
- Pass in O-Level with minimum Grade C in three (3) subjects including Mathematics and science or technical based subjects OR
- Accredited Certificate in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Technical or Malaysian Skills Certificate Level 3 with PT3; or its equivalent OR
- Recognized related Technical/Vocational/Skills qualifications AND an adequate and relevant bridging programme OR
- Pass Technical/Vocational/Skills qualifications and recognized and approve by UniKL Senate OR
- Pass in Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM) qualification been recognized by government of Malaysia and according to approval by UniKL Senate. SVM is recognized as equivalent to 3 credits SPM for candidates who obtain:
- Academic CGPA is equal to or greater than 2.00
- Vocational CGPA is equal to or greater than 2.67 and competent in all vocational modules
- Credit in Bahasa Melayu with SVM Code 1104
- Pass in Sejarah for graduate cohort 2013-2016
- English Language Competency as Entry Requirement (International Students)
- Minimum requirement IELTS 4.0 or Equivalent

Program Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate an understanding of how communication shapes patterns of social interaction, the expression of cultural values and norms, political practices and relations of power, and our positions as local and global citizens.
Be able to use a variety of methodological tools to analyze interpersonal, intercultural, and rhetorical discourse that structures everyday interactions in both our public and private lives.
Demonstrate an understanding of the possibilities, problems, and history of discourse and deliberation in democracy and will be prepared to use their knowledge to work for a just and more humane world.
