Program Learning Outcomes

Overview

The programme aims to develop expertise in public health since it is an area of critical need in the health sector currently. The role of the private sector to drive economic and social development is timely therefore, the programme is able to provide support to the improvement of health status of the population, reduce health disparities among ethnic groups and improve the quality of life comparable to developed countries.

Practitioners produced will not only contribute to medical and health services, but also to universities, hospitals, laboratories, public health agencies and research institutions.

A Master of Public Health is very much needed by many other developing countries as some of the Sustainable Development Goal objectives are related to public health, so demand for this course from other developing countries is very high.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)
  • PEO1
    To produce competent graduates equipped with knowledge required in planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluation of Public Health intervention programs at various levels.
  • PEO2
    To produce graduate who will be able to lead and work in a team with good interpersonal skills.
  • PEO3
    To produce graduates who will practice lifelong learning, evidence-based practice and continuous professional development.
  • PEO4
    To produce graduates who will be professionally skilled in Public Health practice in the community and special groups.

    To produce graduates who have skills in public health management, health informatics, health economics and social entrepreneurship in the practice of Public Health.

  • PLO1 Knowledge and understanding
    To demonstrate the knowledge and comprehension of the principles and practices of public health.
  • PLO2 Cognitive skill
    To assess and evaluate the health status of the community based on latest available evidence in Public Health.
  • PLO3 Practical skills
    To demonstrate skills in community diagnosis, implementing intervention programs, empowerment of community, and analysing health care delivery services.
  • PLO4 Interpersonal skills
    To demonstrate social skills such as negotiation & advocacy skills, teamwork and networking skills in risk, conflict and disaster management.
  • PLO5 Communication skills
    Demonstrate verbal and nonverbal communication skills among stakeholders, subordinates and community in public health practices.
  • PLO6 Digital skills
    To demonstrate skills in information management, needs assessment, online communication, advocacy and use of digital skills in promoting health and designing and conducting research.
  • PLO7 Numeracy skills
    To apply, analyse, interpret and evaluate data in addressing public health issues and challenges in disease prevention and control.
  • PLO8 Leadership, autonomy and responsibility
    To demonstrate leadership skills throughout the study to respond to all the academic requirements needed to fulfil the programme and embrace continuous professional development.

Career Information

Graduates will have excellent career opportunities in the field of Public Health, and able to contribute in the university, health services and government or private medical facilities, laboratory and field research.

Entry Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD), Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent and at least two years experiences as a medical officer (international students excluded)
  • English language proficiency level of either a minimum of IELTS Band 5.0 or TOEFL 500 (for International applicants only)

Demonstrate an understanding of how communication shapes patterns of social interaction, the expression of cultural values and norms, political practices and relations of power, and our positions as local and global citizens.

Be able to use a variety of methodological tools to analyze interpersonal, intercultural, and rhetorical discourse that structures everyday interactions in both our public and private lives.

Demonstrate an understanding of the possibilities, problems, and history of discourse and deliberation in democracy and will be prepared to use their knowledge to work for a just and more humane world.
