Commemorating 21 glorious years with a flavourful twist: ‘Nasi UniKL’

In the heart of Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), a tradition as heartwarming as it is delectable takes centre stage every anniversary.

After a brief hiatus, this cherished tradition returns with full fervour as ‘Nasi UniKL’ graces the tables on August 21, 2023, marking the university’s remarkable 21st year.

This year’s celebration is not just about culinary delights; it’s a tribute to legacy, a celebration of unity, and a savouring of hard-earned success.

Amidst the joyful atmosphere, a ‘Yassin’ recitation resonates, filling the air with a spiritual touch which was led by Al-Fadhil Ustaz Farhan Hasmady from UniKL Malaysian Institute of Information Technology (UniKL MIIT).

A culinary symphony of identity

Dive into the culinary masterpiece that is ‘Nasi UniKL,’ where flavours harmonise to paint a portrait of UniKL’s very essence. Six delectable dishes intertwine to craft an ode to the university’s corporate identity, each with a story to tell.

‘Nasi Biru’ – which uses the extract of ‘Bunga Telang’, encapsulates UniKL’s iconic blue hue, a colour that represents the unity and spirit that courses through the university’s veins.

‘Rendang Kepak Ayam’ and ‘Sambal Ikan Bilis’ transport us to the sky and sea, two elements that mirror UniKL’s diverse course offerings.

A humble Telur Rebus, a boiled egg, embodies UniKL’s logo, while crisp cucumber slices artfully mirror the precision of engineering, a nod to UniKL’s dedication to shaping the talents of tomorrow.

And then there’s the vibrant orange juice, a liquid embodiment of UniKL’s dynamic spirit and one of its signature corporate colours.

Since its inception on August 20, 2002, UniKL has ascended to become a beacon of entrepreneurial education in Higher Technical and Vocational Education and Training (HTVET) within Malaysia.

The year 2023 has etched a golden moment in UniKL’s history with the prestigious Gold Putra’s Aria Brand Award in the Education and Learning Category.

This accolade stands as a tribute to the collective dedication of the UniKL community, reaffirming the university’s unwavering commitment to shaping minds and futures.

In the global arena, UniKL’s presence shines brightly. The QS World Ranking 2024 places UniKL in the 1001-1200 range, a testament to its influence on a global scale.

In the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2023, the university claims its spot within the 501-600 range.

The Acting President/Chief Executive Officer of UniKL, Assoc Prof Ir. Dr. Azman Senin’s reflections on UniKL’s journey are a testament to the power of determination and shared dreams.

“UniKL can now take pride in the achieved accomplishments and continues to be the preferred choice for HTVET education.

“Four years from now, we will be celebrating our 25th anniversary, the Silver Jubilee. We have recorded remarkable achievements in the past 20 years and I believe more successes will be obtained in the near future.

“We will always be measured by the outcome and the output we produced. Be proud of who we are and take pride in all our achievements,” said him.
