3 UniKL students a step closer to representing Malaysia at WorldSkills Shanghai 2022

Three representatives from Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) have charted another milestone for the university by winning three awards at the Virtual Skills Malaysia 2021 competition.

The recipients, Mohamad Faiz Aiman Zainuddin brought home the champion title in the category of Web Technologies, while Nurnayli Athirah Mohd Azhan and Arwa Farha Amril Syam bagged second place and third place respectively in two different categories.

The awards were conferred by Deputy Minister of Human Resources, YB Datuk Haji Awang Hashim at WorldSkills Malaysia 2021 Excellence Awards ceremony, which was held last Friday.

UniKL WorldSkills Coordinator, Mohd Zaki Mohamed said, the three students are one step closer to representing Malaysia at WorldSkills 2022, the gold standard of skills excellence on an international scale.

“Before qualifying for the WorldSkills 2022, they must go through a stringent selection test and candidates must not be over 22 years old,” said him.

Shanghai will be the city host of 46th WorldSkills 2022, which is scheduled to take place from 12 to 17 October, next year.

Future Skills is one of the newest skills area expected to make its first appearance at WorldSkills 2022.

Mohd Zaki added, UniKL has sent out one student to the WorldSkills 2022’s selection test for the category of Automotive Technology and is now waiting for the result.

Earlier this month, UniKL MFI was selected by the Department of Skills Development (DSD) under the Ministry of Human Resources to organise WorldSkills Malaysia University Challenge (WSMUC 2021).

The maiden competition allows UniKL to outshine its accomplishment in skills competition by winning three Medallion of Excellence at WSMUC 2021.

The two-day virtual competition started on 27 to 29 October 2021 involving four contested fields in future skills namely Mobile Applications Development, Cyber Security, Mechanical Engineering CAD, and Building Information Modelling (BIM).
