5th GCET manifests UniKL’s support for green technology

Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) truly believes the 5th International Conference on Green Chemical Engineering & Technology 2021 (5th GCET 2021) will be a valuable investment in professional development activities which in turn will enhance the quality and quantity of research performance across the university.

Chairman of UniKL, Ybhg. Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr. Sukiman Sarmani said that the fifth series of conferences which is organised by UniKL Malaysian Institute of Chemical & Bioengineering Technology (UniKL MICET) aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the latest research developments and technology innovations in the field.

“UniKL is certainly proud to organise this conference for the fourth time as we are resolute in contributing and making an impact to the development of green and sustainable technology for the nation. In addition, we hope this conference can pave the pathway for future international linkages or collaborations with other partner universities, research institutes, businesses as well as the community.

“Although we have come a long way with tremendous success as proof of the initiative, there is certainly more to do. Hence, this conference is a perfect platform for an overview of the scientific, technical, economic, and environmental issues in green and sustainable technology.

“By bringing together academics, researchers, engineers, scientists, practitioners, and policymakers in different fields to discuss green and sustainable technology, this conference will certainly accelerate its growth,” said him during his inauguration speech at the 5th GCET 2021 that is held virtually today.

Also present, Melaka State Director of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), Ybhg. Encik Nurul Azmi Johar; UniKL Deputy President (Academic & Technology), Ybhg. Prof. Dr. Shahrulniza Musa; and Dean of MICET, Assoc. Prof Dr. Ruzainah.

The conference is organised in collaboration with Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Negeri Padang, Universitas Pertamina, Institut Teknologi Kalimantan, and Melaka International College Of Science And Technology.

It also provides a forum for leading corporate, academic, and financial people to discuss recent developments and set up collaborations.

Notably, green and sustainable technology encompasses a technology that is considered to be environmentally friendly, energy-efficient, recyclable, safe, healthy, renewable, and many more based on its production process or supply chain.

It is a means of energy production that is less harmful to the environment than more traditional ways of generating energy, such as burning fossil fuels.

Therefore, Ybhg. Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr. Sukiman said, the conference theme “green chemical engineering technologies for sustainable smart societies” is most appropriate and resonant with the outcome of the recent COP26.

In COP26 – the biggest and most important climate-related conference on the planet, most nations agreed to urgently accelerate effort and actions to deal with the global climate changes.
