Dr. Farisya earns ultimate accolades

 

Most school leavers dream of studying abroad as a way to gain a global perspective and earn credits toward their degree.

Contrary to Dr. Farisya Mohd Lepatoni who uncustomarily declined an offer to pursue studies in the United States of America (USA), and instead chose Universiti Kuala Lumpur Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP).

However, it was worth the sacrifice for the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) graduate when she earned ultimate accolades at the “Majlis Lafaz Ikrar & Anugerah Kecemerlangan Akademik Graduan MBBS UniKL RCMP 2022” ceremony.

In addition to the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) Perak award, she was also conferred with Dean’s, Distinction, and Discipline Awards.

In her valedictorian speech, she described accepting the offer from UniKL as the best major decision of her life.

Dr. Farisya led 89 other graduates in taking the Special Hippocratic Oath in the ceremony, which was held on October 28th at Casuarina@Meru Hotel and organised by the Faculty of Medicine.

Also present were the President/Chief Executive Officer of UniKL, Datuk Dr. Roziah Omar; UniKL, Director of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) Perak; Puan Lailatul Asmah Mohd Tahir; Deputy Director (Medical), Perak State Health Department, Dr. Norisah Mahat Nor; Director of Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun Ipoh, Dr. Megat Iskandar Megat Abdul Hamid; UniKL RCMP Head of Campus, Tuan Haji Hisshamuddin Omar; Vice Chairman of MMA Perak Branch, Dr. Suresh Subramaniam; Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Associate Professor Dr. Syed Rahim Syed Hamid; and Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Professor Dr. Ahmad Fuad Shamsuddin.

In her keynote address, Datuk Dr. Roziah congratulated the graduates for their excellent achievement in their Final Professional Examination.

“This ceremony is very meaningful as it marks the recognition of the hard work, struggles, and effort of the graduates throughout their five years of gaining knowledge at UniKL.

“As a trainee doctor, gain new experience as much as possible and adjust yourself to the reality of community life. Be dedicated and work with full integrity. Empower yourself to serve not only the local but also the global community,” she said.

Meanwhile, Associate Professor Dr. Syed Rahim, in his speech advised the graduates to develop their trust between doctor and patient relationships and always be within the confines of ethics and morality.

“Mutual respect is very essential. Being humble does not tarnish your status as a doctor. The medical field is ever-evolving, and you have to be ready to embrace new knowledge and technology.

“I strongly believe that our curriculum has transformed you into a lifelong learner. You must keep up with new developments in the medical field,” he further noted.
