CommTECH Camp: 3 UniKL MIMET students charted growth through maritime education

In a world where the boundaries of knowledge and experience are continually expanding, a trio of students from Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Marine Engineering Technology (UniKL MIMET) has chosen to set sail towards unique horizons.

While many undergraduates seek to broaden their perspectives and immerse themselves in diverse cultures through education programmes abroad, Muhammad Hafiz Imanuddin Hasrol, Muhamad Amir Firdaus Zamri, and Nurul Huda Abdul Razak are taking this opportunity to chart their growth through maritime education.

Their journey commenced with their participation in the Community and Technological Camp, fondly known as CommTECH Camp, conducted in the vibrant city of Surabaya, Indonesia.

This exceptional initiative became the platform through which these students expressed their maritime aspirations and goals.

For Muhammad Hafiz Imanuddin, the CommTECH Camp provided a unique avenue to advance his understanding and knowledge in the maritime field.

“The beauty of travel is that it changes a person and teaches them a lot about themselves,” he remarked, underlining the transformative power of cross-cultural experiences.

Muhamad Amir Firdaus, on the other hand, recognised the value of short courses as a means to bridge knowledge gaps within his professional realm.

His proactive approach to continuous learning aims to maximise his growth potential without the commitment of longer programs.

Both Muhamad Amir Firdaus and Muhammad Hafiz Imanuddin embraced the inaugural CommTECH Camp, held from January 26th to February 6th, 2023, with boundless enthusiasm.

Meanwhile, Nurul Huda Abdul Razak made her mark during the second CommTECH Camp, held from July 20th to July 31st, 2023.

As a passionate advocate for the planet’s health, the CommTECH Camp provided an opportunity for her to delve into critical environmental issues.

With a keen interest in topics like air pollution and its effective solutions, Nurul Huda was determined to contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment.

Nurul Huda Abdul Razak bagged the Best Participant award, conferred by Assoc Prof Dr Maria Anityasari, the director of ITS Global Engagement.

“Especially for those who live in bustling cities with high air quality indices, the most vulnerable demographics will definitely be the children, pregnant women, old people, and sick patients,” she emphasised.

Their exceptional skills and talents shone brightly, earning both Nurul Huda Abdul Razak and Muhammad Hafiz Imanuddin the title of top participants among peers from 16 universities worldwide in their respective series of camps.

Muhammad Aizat Roslee has been meticulously chosen to fully partake in the third CommTech Camp.

Looking ahead, Muhammad Aizat Roslee is the next UniKL MIMET student scheduled to immerse himself in the experience of the third CommTECH Camp, taking place from August 21st to September 1st, 2023, at ITS Surabaya, Indonesia.

A senior lecturer at UniKL MIMET and the project coordinator, Ts Dr. Azman Ismail anticipates that this valuable opportunity presented by the CommTech Camp will profoundly enrich the experiential and knowledge-building journey of the participating UniKL students.
