10 UniKL MIMET students ‘set sail’ at DoNA 2023

Ten students from the Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Marine Engineering Technology (UniKL MIMET) have earned coveted full scholarships to participate in the prestigious DoNA Short Project Development 2023, hosted by Indonesia’s Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in Surabaya.

This event, scheduled to unfold from September 18 to 27, 2023, will focus on the intriguing topic of ‘Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS)’.

The DoNA Short Project Development 2023, abbreviated as DoNA aspires to empower students with practical knowledge and skills, with a strong emphasis on modelling techniques and digital technology.

Notably, participants in this programme boast backgrounds in the fields of naval architecture and marine technology.

Throughout the ten-day event, these ten UniKL MIMET students will be immersed in various engaging activities.

They will partake in enlightening courses, attend seminars featuring industry experts, embark on insightful institute visits, and peruse a stimulating exhibition, all designed to broaden their horizons.

Initially involving four students, a senior lecturer from UniKL MIMET, Dr. Azman Ismail, who established a connection between both institutions said this collaboration has now grown to include ten students who gain valuable international experience at ITS facilities.

“According to student feedback, they are enthusiastic and have learned extensively across various dimensions, offering them valuable learning opportunities, and seizing every opportunity for growth and precious international experiences.

“This programme is a source of great pride as it aims to foster continuous attachment and collaboration, ensuring a strong and mutually beneficial relationship between both institutions,” said him.

One of the highlights of DoNA 2023 is an exhilarating case study that promises to challenge participants and encourage them to explore the frontiers of innovation, knowledge, and hands-on experiences.

This immersive experience offers a unique opportunity for these budding maritime technologists to sail into the world of cutting-edge technology and industry insights.

This remarkable achievement follows UniKL MIMET’s successful participation in another ITS programme, the Community and Technological Camp (CommTECH Camp).

In a previous endeavour, UniKL MIMET dispatched four students to ITS, setting the stage for continued growth through maritime education and collaboration between the institutions.
