UniKL RCMP shines at i-MARATech 2023 with 2 medals

The Universiti Kuala Lumpur Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP) clinched two prestigious medals at the Anugerah Inovasi MARA (AIM) event held alongside the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) Technology Exploration (i-MARATeCH) 2023, showcasing groundbreaking product research.

The gold medal and a cash prize of RM3,000 were awarded to the team behind the ß-CAPS+ Chemopreventive Agent for Leukemia, led by ChM Dr. Mazlin Mohideen.

ß-CAPS+ is a revolutionary dietary supplement explicitly crafted to augment cancer treatment and neuroprotection, featuring ß-carboline derivatives as its active ingredient.

Initiated in 2013, the research delves into the therapeutic potential of the ‘Neolitsea kedahensis’ plant. The extraction of ß-carboline derivatives from its stems presents promising avenues for further exploration, particularly as an anticancer agent.

In addition to the gold medal success, a silver medal was secured by another research team led by Ts. Dr. Vikneswari Perumal.

Their creation, the Chris V product, is a cost-effective capsule designed to manage diabetes in millions of patients globally, making it accessible to middle-income groups.

The accomplishment earned the team a cash prize of RM2,000.

Since its inception in 2016, the competition, featuring six categories, introduced two new segments: Inovasi Alat Bantuan Mengajar (IABM) and Inovasi Bahan Bantuan Belajar (IBBB).

Contestants underwent evaluation in two phases, first by the MARA internal jury and subsequently by professional juries comprising representatives from local universities, MARA Institute of Education (IPMa), and industry experts.
