Samsung’s Dato’ Roh appointed Visiting Professor at UniKL MIIT

Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Information Technology (UniKL MIIT) has bestowed the honourable title of Visiting Professor upon YBhg. Dato’ Roh Jae Yeol, the Director of Corporate Affairs at Samsung Malaysia Electronics (SME) Sdn. Bhd.

The appointment, effective from July 27th, 2023, for a period of two years, marks a significant milestone in fostering collaborative efforts between the corporate world and academia.

The conferment ceremony, which took place at UniKL MIIT last Thursday, was attended by members of the university’s leadership, including Acting President/Chief Executive Officer Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Azman Senin, who also holds the position of Deputy President (International, Industrial and Institutional Partnership) at UniKL.

Also present were the Deputy President (Student Development & Campus Lifestyle) of UniKL, Prof. Ts. Dr. Zalizah Awang Long and the Dean of UniKL MIIT, Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Nizam Husen.

UniKL MIIT’s decision to appoint Dato’ Roh as Visiting Professor stems from his exceptional contributions to shaping the corporate landscape and advancing educational opportunities, particularly at UniKL MIIT.

With this appointment, the university seeks to leverage Dato’ Roh’s expertise to explore potential areas of mutual benefit for both Samsung and UniKL MIIT.

UniKL MIIT’s vision of becoming the Korean Hub in Malaysia further reinforces the significance of this appointment.

The institute has recently been designated as the centre for the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) Exam in Malaysia, starting from October 2023.

This initiative will facilitate networking opportunities among industry practitioners and participants, with over 2,000 candidates expected to sit for the exam, which is conducted twice a year.

Among the key objectives of the Korean Hub initiative is the provision of apprenticeships and internship opportunities to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) graduates from UniKL and other MARA Institute of Education (IPMa) within various Korean industries in Malaysia and Korea.

UniKL MIIT, with YBhg. Dato’ Roh’s assistance as Chairman of the Korean Chamber of Commerce Malaysia (KOCHAM), aims to materialise this initiative and create a platform for fostering talent exchange and cultural understanding between the two nations.

As the two-year tenure commences, the university and Samsung look forward to achieving new heights together and making substantial contributions to the field of education and technology.
