UniKL – Department of Skills Development to explore joint effort on alumni employability

Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) through its Center for Alumni and Career Services (CACS) and Centre for Advancement & Continuing Education (ACE) in collaboration with the Ministry of Human Resources’ Accreditation Unit, Department of Skills Development will explore a joint effort on the technical university’s alumni employability.

In an engagement session with the Accreditation Unit, Deputy Director of CACS, Ts Dr. Abdul Hadi Mohamad said that the joint effort includes potential training services to be provided to the varsity’s alumni under the unit such as Sistem Latihan Dual Nasional (SLDN).

At the same time, he noted that the exchange of views session is also aimed at exploring the prospect of UniKL being one of the training universities for skills development.

“One of the objectives for today’s engagement session is we want to open opportunities for our alumni to take part in skills training programmes under SLDN, precisely. This is not only for those who desire to land a job, but those who are seeking a career shift, hence we want to help them.

“The number of UniKL graduates for this year is expected to reach around 4,000 to 5,000 graduates; nonetheless, in terms of the total of graduates who will be attending the next convocation might reach 10,000 graduates,” said him during the engagement session that was held today at UniKL City Campus.

Also present, Director of Accreditation Unit Department of Skills Development at Ministry of Human Resources, Ts. Dr. Aruna Binti Ismail @ Abd Wahab; and Director of CACS, Azrul Hisyam Abdul Rahman.

On another note, under the Twelfth Malaysia Plan (RMKe-12), the government has identified Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as one of the game changers to meet the labour demand in the related industry.

To strengthen the TVET sector, the government will provide RM6.6 billion to implement various initiatives under the relevant ministries and agencies. Emphasis will be on meeting the current needs of the industry.

Accordingly, an additional allocation of RM200 million will be provided for collaboration with industries including the SLDN and industry certification programmes, under the Budget 2022.

For the record, UniKL’s graduate employability percentage has increased to 96.1% in 2020, as compared to the previous year with 95.26% and these percentages are higher than the national average with 84.4%.
