UniKL launch ‘Sembang Merdeka Malaysia 2020’

Kuala Lumpur (21 Aug 2020): In conjunction with the 63rd National Day celebration on August 31, UniKL Centre for Student Development (CSD) held the first of three series talks by distinguished personalities on the spirit of national patriotism and importance of independence.

The guest of honour for today’s first series of “Sembang Merdeka Malaysia 2020” was Brigadier General Dato’ Dr Mohd Radzi Hj Abdul Hamid. The event was held at the Bestari Hall of UniKL Chancellery.

UniKL Acting President/Chief Executive Officer Prof Dr Shahrulniza Musa said in his welcoming address that Brigadier General Dato’ Dr Mohd Radzi Hj Abdul Hamid’s 35 years of distinguished career and experience as a military officer speaks volume the spirit of patriotism and sacrifices of those serving at the frontline.

“We commend and salute our frontline military officers and the unsung heroes of our nation who sacrificed their lives in fighting for the independence of our country,” said Prof Dr Shahrulniza.

“The 2020 National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign was launched by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on July 28 in an atmosphere high with patriotism,” he said, adding that UniKL will hold several activities during the 2020 National Month.

The highlight of the launch by the Prime Minister was the singing of the theme song for the 2020 National Day and Malaysia Day celebration, ‘Malaysia Prihatin’. The song was composed by RTM music director Datuk Mokhzani Ismail, with the lyrics by El Sol Akhmad.

Also present at today’s the event was Assoc Prof Tuan Dr Salwani Awang Salleh, the Director of Centre of Student Development, head of departments and students.

The second talk of ‘Sembang Merdeka Malaysia 2020’ series will be delivered by Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Utama Dr Rais Yatim on August 25.
