UniKL to drive synergistic collaboration between TVET institutions, government and industry

Yang Berhormat Dato’ Seri Mahdzir Khalid (in the middle) was talking to an alumnus of UniKL during his official visit to UniKL MIAT, last year.

The Minister of Rural Development (KPLB), Yang Berhormat Dato’ Seri Mahdzir Khalid believes Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) is ready to play its mandated role in driving synergistic collaboration between technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions, government and industry.

This will be done through the sharing of resources, expertise, and equipment in a bid to empower TVET.

In addition to that, the establishment of the Government-Industry TVET Coordinating Body (GITC) as an intermediary body will help to create a more integrated TVET ecosystem.

He further noted this is in line with the agenda and aspirations of the KPLB to develop quality, skilled rural human capital and meet future demands.

“KPLB welcomes the decision of the National TVET Council meeting chaired by the Prime Minister which has endorsed the establishment of the GITC, the implementation of the TVET Collaboration Hub as well as the proposed single rating of the TVET Programme.

“The establishment of the industry-led GITC enables the industry and government to shoulder the responsibility to enable TVET in each value chain to produce quality graduates,” said him in a statement.

There are three TVET educational institutions under the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) that will be involved in the TVET Collaboration Hub initiative, which are UniKL Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL MIAT), UniKL Malaysia France Institute (UniKL MFI) and UniKL Asia Rail Center.

For the record, KPLB has 279 TVET educational institutions nationwide. Among the KPLB’s TVET collaborations with the industry include strategic collaborations with various industrial sectors through the signing of a total of 227 Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with active status.

This includes the provision of the latest technology, expertise and professional training, program development, instructors and trainees, technology and knowledge transfer, upskilling and reskilling.

“These planned initiatives can streamline and further strengthen the TVET ecosystem with the integrated mobilisation of all stakeholders to elevate TVET as a career first choice,” said Yang Berhormat Dato’ Seri Mahdzir.
